The Fierce 50 Campaign – Ana Bogusky & Anita Morris
Hello everyone! Today marks the launch of the first annual Fierce 50 Campaign. As women over 50, we are coming together in a supportive collaborative community to honor and celebrate one another and to share with the world what it means to be a woman at midlife and beyond. Through this collaboration, each woman has developed a unique bond with their blog partners, opening their hearts and sharing their stories. In building authentic connections and relationships, we are forming a community of women who have within them over half a century of life experience and wisdom to share. We are joining together as one to begin shifting a worldwide perception of this demographic. We are here to show the world how powerful we are together and that we are only truly just beginning.
Meet my Fierce50 Sister – Ana Bogusky – Mrs. American Made
I think it’s amazing that Ana and I were paired together, because we have quite a bit in common. Ana is the married mom of two. She and her husband of almost 21 years met through work in the advertising industry. She became a stay-at-home mom after their first child was born, and though she had plans of returning to work, she found being a mom more difficult and time consuming than she had imagined. She proudly says, and I agree with her, that being a mom is the “hardest, best job ever, and her greatest joy.” Ana’s first born is 20 years old and currently studying photography at an Art School in Oakland. Hmmm… I see a new blog photographer in Ana’s future. Her daughter is a junior in high school. Her daughter’s passion is dance, and she competed for the first time recently after being accepted into a local dance company. This was a dream come true for her, as she was a very sick little baby, and works incredibly hard to achieve her goals. She also takes most of Ana’s photos for her blog. Wow, what a talented young lady, don’t you think?
Ana started her blog over four years ago when she decided it would be good to buy only American-made products for the economy’s sake, and “vote with her dollars” so to speak, but the more she learned the more she became committed to the mission. Starting the blog seemed to happen organically but she also realizes that it began as her daily parenting wind-down. Being a shy and private person, Ana is surprised at how her blog has grown and spread. She admits that her mission of bringing awareness has created almost an alter ego in Mrs. American Made, giving her the confidence to put herself and the blog out there.
Ana also realizes that it is better for the environment to shop as “locally” as possible, and she’s becoming increasingly interested in slow fashion and ethical fashion. These ideas have turned her into a big supporter of the Maker movement and she enjoys Do-It-Yourself projects, including sewing. She learned to sew as a young girl, and admits that although she’s not a “super duper seamstress,” she has made some things over the past few years, including bags. Ana also taught herself to knit a few years back so she could make herself hats and scarves. She says that so much of our knits are imported and she couldn’t find any #MadeInUSA for the blog. There’s a separate “DIY Gallery” on the blog, featuring some of her makes.
Ana was drawn to this campaign because she wants her two children to know that age does not define you, whether you are five, fifty, or older. She is 51 years young and doesn’t worry about growing old, as she believes every day we wake up one day older is a privilege. As a child she was taught the importance of intelligence and wisdom over physical traits.

- She’s a vegetarian!
- She’s a red belt in karate! (Don’t mess with this girl!)
- Her favorite color is blue! (any shade)
- Her favorite food is ice cream! (A girl after my own heart!)
