ELEGANT MAXI DRESS | MCCALL'S 7774

Give me cute, cool, comfort all summer long. These maxi dresses I’ve been sewing lately are reminding me of just how much I love long dresses. I’m on my way to building a wardrobe that makes me smile when I enter the closet. It’s still really hot in my town so this elegant maxi dress is great for the weather and my style. Let’s get into the details.

Pattern Information
MCCALL’S 7774 is seven years old but I purchased it recently. Views A & B are loose fitting pullover dresses with v-neck fronts, side seam pockets and above the knee hem. View A has a keyhole opening at center back and flounce at bottom of skirt.. Views C & D have fitted bodice with bust darts, gathered waist skirt, side seam pockets, invisible back zipper, v-front opening and length variations. View C has a band at the bottom (lower front and back). Views A & B are partially lined. Views C & D have fully lined bodices. They are referred to as facings in the pattern.

The pattern is available on the Simplicity website in both print and PDF options with a size range of 6 – 22. It is rated as EASY. Whenever I see an “easy” rating, I think about beginners. While this looks like a simple design, I would not recommend it for new beginners. You must be familiar with; inserting linings, sewing the shoulder seams together between outer and lining fabric without twisting it, and sewing a clean finish on the bodice with an invisible zipper. If there were no lining, I would say, YES, beginner-friendly.

I think the instructions are helpful for an advanced beginner but as a new beginner you would have to know about finishing seam allowances because the directions don’t mention that step at all.

Fabric Information
The pattern calls for Crepe, Linen, Stable Knits, and Cotton Blends. I used this absolutely stunning LYOCEL TWILL DEADSTOCK from Core Fabrics in the color Forest Green. Oh My Goodness! It feels so soft against my skin. Jewel tones are part of my color palette and this green is IT! Reminder to self: Add more forest green to the closet. The fabric has an excellent drape, making it a great choice for this dress design. The forest green is currently out of stock.

As part of my collaboration with Core Fabrics, you can receive 15% off your entire order at CORE FABRICS by using my NEW code (ANITA*15) at checkout. Discount does not apply to sale items. I received the fabric and thread to sew this dress in exchange for sharing the project with my community. I also receive a small commission on qualifying purchases. All opinions about the products are my own.

Inside the Garment
I used my Baby Lock Chorus sewing machine and Vibrant Serger to sew the dress. Since the fabric frays quite a bit, I finished the raw edges of the skirt pieces and pocket straight edges with my serger to prevent the threads from unraveling during construction. If you don’t have a serger, you can use pinking shears to help reduce the fraying. Here are a few closeup photos of the inside of the dress.

Notions Information
The only notions required are a 22″ invisible zipper and hook & eye closure for Views C and D. Core Fabrics sent me matching THREAD to sew the dress. They have lots of colors available. Notions are also included in the 15% off discount when you use my NEW code ANITA*15.

Alterations Information
I cut a Size 10 and didn’t make any adjustments for fit. However, I did extend the length of the pocket pieces so that I could anchor them into the waist seam. I will plan to demonstrate that technique in a video one day on my YouTube channel. I don’t like to have pockets flapping around on the inside of my garments. If there’s no waist seam to anchor them, I will either eliminate them or alter the pocket to make it work. There is also a method where you can create a pocket strap, attach it to the pocket, then anchor it to another part of the garment. This is a trick I learned from Isabel with Beau Jé Designs on Instagram. It’s a brilliant idea but I haven’t implemented it yet. Here are a few photos of the pocket alteration.

Now, let’s talk about the hem. It was a complete and utter mess. I don’t think it was the pattern design. I believe it was the lightweight, drapey nature of the fabric. This has happened before, especially when cutting on the bias. Although the dress isn’t cut on the bias, it still happened. This is why I allow certain garments to hang overnight to allow them to grow and settle before hemming. I plan to sew this dress again with a more structured fabric and I’m curious to see how the hem will turn out.

Needless to say, I had to do some serious surgery to get a workable hem. I use the term “workable” because my hem isn’t perfect, but works for me. It took several attempts to reach this point. I don’t have any of the fancy hemming tools that I’ve seen others use to correct uneven hems. Maybe one day I will try the hem chalk tool that sprays out markers onto the garment while it’s on the person or dress form.

In the meantime, I used my yard stick, straight pins, and tailors chalk. After the third round, I was satisfied enough to leave well enough alone. The best way to fix an uneven hem like this is for the dress to be on the actual body of the person. My dress form isn’t an exact replica of my body, so perfection wasn’t my goal here.

This is the finished hem, but I will shorten it even more later because, as is, I can only wear it with heels. I want to wear it with flats too for a more casual look. It would be so cute with my animal print Mary Jane shoes, crossbody bag, gold jewelry, and a big floppy hat for outdoors in the sun. Cute, cool, and comfortable. The three C’s I want for this summer heat while keeping it elegant.

The front-v opening is part of the reason I purchased the pattern. I thought it was a cute detail added to a basic fit and flare dress. However, because my fabric is super soft and drapey, the front flops open on both sides, revealing cleavage. I don’t like showing cleavage, therefore, I added hook & eye closure to the front which created a keyhole opening. The next time I sew this dress with a more structured fabric I will sew the v-opening up a bit more.

Styling Options
It was not my intention to wear this dress as a formal. I would have never chosen this fabric for that purpose. However, when I saw the finished garment, I knew I wanted to style it for a special occasion event. The color is so rich and I knew rhinestones would make it shine.
I’ve styled it with rhinestone strappy sandals, a rhinestone bucket bag, rhinestone statement necklace, rhinestone earrings, ring and beaded bracelets. Oh, yes, ma’am! And although it wasn’t supposed to be a formal, here we are, and I’m ready for somebody’s wedding or Christmas Party this coming winter.

For the second look, I’ve styled it with camel colored pumps, a crescent handbag, gold necklace, earrings, bracelets, and rings. I don’t think I will wear it with the pumps because the design looks better with open-toe shoes. I’ve been looking for the right camel colored sandal heel for a while but haven’t found anything yet.

Hi Rochelle!!! Oh, I can’t wait to see your dress. Have fun getting those unfinished projects done. 🤗
Beautiful color on you and absolutely classy. Love this dress!
Thank you so much, Diane! 💕
Love the dress, but dont you ever wear anything really casual. Always seems so formal please bear in mind not every one attends functions/events. I would be good to have casual clothes patterns, e.g tops, trousers, shirts and just knee lenght everyday wear skirts
Hi Nancy! I sew for MY lifestyle. I actually do attend functions and events, and I LOVE to dress up. I’m not here to sew for other people. I’m not a pattern designer, therefore, I don’t need to take into consideration what everyone else wants. I’m creating MY wardrobe, not yours. And to answer your question: Yes, I do sew and wear casual clothing. However, what I consider “casual” may not seem casual to you. You must be new here. If you’ve been reading my posts for a while, you would know that I don’t sew “formal” clothing all the time. Again, my definition of “formal” may be different from yours. A casual maxi dress to wear around the house for me, might be too formal for you. Please understand that “STYLE” is very relative and personal. There are lots of sewists in our community who sew clothes that may be a better fit for your personal style. Thank you.
A must have and it looks really nice on you — You’re so good at this.
Thank you so much, Margarett! I love it so much that I’m about to make another one. 🤗
Thanks Anita for keeping us informed. The dress & the color is beautiful.
You’re very welcome, Rosalind. And thank you for coming here to leave your comment.
I really like the bodice! This dress seems simple but has very nice details
Thank you, Tristen! I love the bodice too. I love the simplicity of the dress.
As always, excellent workmanship and a very elegant finished product. Your choice of fabric suits this pattern perfectly. Lovely!
Thank you so much, Ursula! The fabric really did elevate the entire look of the dress.
Very inspiring. I love your blog posts.
Oh Shannon, thank you so much. It blesses my heart to know that you enjoy the blog posts. Thank you, from my heart, for being here.💕
You look GREAT in EVERY outfit! Love your blogs…awesome pictures and detail. Thank you for sharing you knowledge.
Thank you so much, Vivian! 💕
I love the look. Both shoes and purses go together very nicely. The fabric and style are perfect for a summer maxi dress. The pattern is going for twenty dollars new and almost the same on Etsay used. I might have to bite the bullet and get the new one. Thank you, Anita, for taking the time detailing the makings of this dress with photos from start to finish. Very lovely garment.
Hi Anita!!!!! Thank you so much. The pattern is on sale at simplicity.com for $4.99 until August 6th. Here’s the link: https://simplicity.com/mccalls/m7774?searchid=21141809&search_query=7774
When I saw you rocking this beauty, I ordered the pattern immediately and it was delivered yesterday. I can’t wait to put on the pretty dress and share photos. You are a blessing! ❤️🙌🏽
You did a great job with the hem. I can’t believe how much it was off. I’ve had this pattern for a very long time but have never made it. I wish you would make view A, I like the flounce. Love that deep green color. You look gorgeous in it. 💚
Thank you so much, Esther!💕
Yeeessss, Dyane! I would have done the same thing. You will LOVE wearing this dress. It is so comfortable. Have fun sewing your dress. 🤗
You are beautiful I love the dress I will maybe give it a whirl hunter green and forest green are my favorite. Colors❤️
Thank you so much, Ellen! I love green and I hope you enjoy sewing the dress if you give it a try. 🤗
The Blog works and the Dress does too! Beautiful as always!
Thank you so much, Terry! 💕💕💕
Love the fabric and color, but I still haven’t given the plunge to order fabric on line yet. Just made one of your dresses on your YouTube sew along and I LOVE IT!! Thank you and hope to see more YouTube sew alongs. It makes it so much more fun and easy.
Thank you so much, Barb! I’m so glad to hear that you are enjoying the YouTube sew alongs. Stay tuned!!! I have a sew along coming real soon. In fact, if you’re not a member of my Private Email Community, make sure you join, because I’ll be sharing some news soon. 🤗
Gorgeous as always. I so enjoy reading your blogs and the amazing things you make. I think your garments always look so well made.
Thank you so much, Katrina! It really blesses my heart to know that you enjoy reading the blog posts. I appreciate your feedback. It’s very encouraging. 💕
Just Beautiful, as always. Awesome master sewing skills. ❤️
Thank you so much, Suprina! 💕
I agree with you. This wasn’t your best work. I prefer a trouser hook for a neater closure. I try a new pattern on a muslin first or fabric I don’t like to tweak the fit. Love this on you.
Thank you, Edith.
Hi Anita Love the dress and colour. Thank you for sharing xx
You’re very welcome, Karen. 💕
Hi Anita; your dress looks absolutely perfect. And, I think I have this pattern in my stash!
Hi Yvonne! Thank you so much.💕
Dear Anita,
I am loving your frequent posts on Facebook. Your quiet, elegant style is an inspiration, a silent note to slow down, to plan, to do your best. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Oh Glenda, thank you so much for your feedback. My heart smiles to know you enjoy my Facebook posts. I appreciate you for coming here to leave a comment.💕💕💕
This dress is absolutely stunning! And, to know which pattern you used is even more amazing. You made this pattern look good!!! I have considered using this pattern, recently. You just made my mind up for me, lol. I love what you did with the pockets. I will do that as well. I don’t like “runaway” pockets, either. You look amazing! And, I have to say your hair style choice looks incredible on you. This was definitely a win- win look for a casual or a formal look. Well done!
Hi Alethia!!! Thank you so much, SEW Sister! I love that you called them “runaway” pockets. 😂 That is exactly what there are because you have to chase them to find them. 🤣 I’m so glad you like the dress and hair. This was a fun project, and I think you will make it look good too. Have fun sewing your dress. 🤗💕🤗
This is a lovely dress. I will look out for that pattern.
Thank you, Elizabeth! 💕
Looks beautiful on you!
Thank you, Rose! 💕
It’s a lovely dress that looks fairly simple to make and fit which I like ! The extended pockets are a great idea . I would want to raise the armhole for my own figure but I think that’s possible . I like your choices of patterns though I have not managed to make a start yet ! I’m currently trying to fit a new bodice block to use for the dresses I’m planning … fingers crossed. Love seeing your makes they are always elegant.
Thank you, Sally! Yes, I’m making the dress again right now and I raised the armhole for more coverage. It’s an easy alteration. I think it’s a great idea to get your bodice block fitted for your planned dresses. Have fun and happy sewing. 💕
Hi Anita, the dress looks great on you. Thank you so much for the advice to lengthen the pockets so they can be sewn into the waist! It’s not something that I’ve done before but obvious now you’ve pointed it out! Thank you for all the sewing tips and advice and greetings from England!
Hi Debbie from England. Thank you so much for leaving a comment here. Yes, the pocket tip is really a game changer. I’m glad you enjoyed the sewing tips and advice. 💕
Hi Anita, I’m not good at this tech stuff but you sure are with all you accomplish. Only comment I can add is I often avoid wearing sleeveless clothing You look great in sleeveless and shows how you have stayed fit. Good job!!
Hi Wendy!!! Thank you so much for coming here to leave a comment. Yes, there are many women who don’t like going sleeveless. Depending on the style of the bodice, I’ve actually added sleeves to a dress that included other details that I liked.💕
As always, Beautiful dress & workWomanship. Keep doing what you are doing, you’re a blessing to others.
Thank you so much, Ma Rose! I appreciate you. 💕
Nice dress and color. Looks wonderful on you!!
Thank you so much, Anita!💕
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Gloria!!!!!!💕💕💕
Love, love, love the dress. You look very nice. Also, your work is well done. 😊
Thank you so much, ShaWuana! 💕
Your dress is absolutely stunning! Everything about it is beautiful from the fit, the color and your styling options!
Thank you so much, Myra! I really appreciate your feedback. 💕
Lovely teal fabric with an elegant drape. I was just discussing your work around based on what the fabric wants to do vs what the intention of the pattern design with a someone I recommended your videos to.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much, Sherry! I really appreciate you for recommending my videos. That really blesses my heart. 💕💕💕
Anita, as ever I am impressed with your sewing skill and impeccable fashion sense. The green maxi is stunning as are most of your creations. And I agree jewel tones really are your colors.
Sandra, thank you so much for your beautiful words. I’m loving this maxi SO MUCH! I really appreciate your feedback.
A beautiful dress in a color that is so pretty on you! Good idea to style it for a formal event – shows how versatile it is. That hem would have driven me crazy!!! Luckily, good enough is good enough and it looks fine in all the photos. Only you know the truth!
Thank you Mary Jean! Yes, nobody will know but me when I wear it out. 🤗
I love a maxi dress for the summer days. I didn’t realize that the fabric was a woven. I drapes beautifully like a soft knit. That’s a great pattern and a great look on you.
Thank you Naomi! Yes, the fabric has an amazing drape and feels so soft.
Another lovely maxi seen to perfection by you! Love the color too.
Thank you so much, Eileen! 💕
Love the color
Thank you, Lisa! Me too! I absolutely LOVE it! 🤗
Simply gorgeous! The color (my favorite) is just beautiful. Anita, your talent in sewing is truly a gift. Of your new wardrobe pieces, there’s something about this one that moves me to sew again. I am excited about what you will sew next.
Oh my goodness, Michele! Thank you so much. Your comment has blessed my heart. Anytime I can play a part in inspiring someone to sew, my heart smiles. I appreciate you for being here. 💕
Hello: no problem today with the messages.
Thank you so much for coming here to check it out for me, Delia. I really appreciate you. 💕
This dress is so cute & looks very comfy. I love long dresses and this one can be worn in all seasons too!
Thank you so much, Joyce! Yes, I agree that it can be worn in all season. That’s a bonus. 🤗
Hi Anita, I like your maxi dress and color. It looks nice with your skin tone and thanks for reaching out.
Thank you so much, Loretta. I appreciate you for responding. 💕
Another beautiful creation.
Thank you Jay! 💕
Anita, I could not wait to post a comment about this dress. I LOVE jewel tones; this forest green is ravishing!!! I like the versatile changes the different accessories lend to the look of the dress. It can be worn for a formal occasion or for a relaxed luncheon date. Without a doubt, this maxi dress screams your name! Your selection and execution of patterns is so refreshing. You bring patterns to life that seem to have been overlooked. Thanks for a beautiful presentation!!
Thank you so much, De! Yes, it’s such a beautiful and vibrant color, and so very versatile. I always appreciate your feedback. Thank you for being here. 💕
Wow. With over 140 posts, it appears that the issue was resolved. Here is my original message that I tried to leave the other day:
That IS an elegant maxi, Anita, and that color is smashing on you! Another gorgeous creation, improved with the elongated pockets. (That was very smart to elongate those pockets so they fit in the waistline seam.) Like all your projects, it’s so finished looking even on the inside. But it’s the color that makes it so perfect for you. Wear it in good health!
Nice to see how many people love you, Anita, and admire your handiwork!
Thank you so much, Susan! I really appreciate you for coming back to leave your comment again. My heart is so grateful for all the love you ladies have shown me today. My heart smiles. 💕
Oh Anita, this colour looks Fab on you!!!!🩷. I too love the sew alongs, keeps me motivated, plus I learn things along the way. Thank you for always sharing with us. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Just a thought, will you consider maybe doing a tailoring sew along, ie: how to shorten sleeves on a ready made, lined jacket , or taking in some ready made pants along the side seam? I’m hopeless at making pants and always have to alter ready made, but really don’t know the proper way to go about it. Anyways, just a thought for future. Also, another future idea……a pants course? 😀💕
Good morning Anita,
I love this dress and green colour
Hi Christine! Thank you so much. I appreciate you. 💕
Anita, your craftsmanship & artistic flair are superb! And how well you wear your creations! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.
Oh Virginia! Thank you so much for your feedback. Your words made me smile.💕
Lovely, I have not seen anything I don’t like that you have worn. You make every outfit show case you. Just ordered the pattern. Will definitely make a few.:) Thanks for sharing the sew alongs, they encourage me to complete the garments. Love
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much, Lydia! I’m so glad to hear that you purchased the pattern. Have fun making your dresses. I’m about to make another one this weekend. I love it so much that I must have another one. Smiling form my heart to hear that you enjoy the sew alongs and how they encourage you to complete garments. I appreciate you for being here. Have a wonderful weekend.
This is a beautiful dress. The color you chose and maxi length is perfect. Love looking at your tutorials. There is always something new to learn. I made this dress maybe 2 years ago in rust/orange. I enjoy wearing it. Thank you Anita for being so inspiring to us Sew Sisters. ❤️
Oh Doris, thank you so much! I’m so glad to hear that you enjoy watching my tutorials and are learning new things. Yes, it’s a great dress pattern. I’m making another one right now. I appreciate you, Sew Sister. 💕
This is a beautiful dress, Anita
Thank you Devoria! 💕
Beautiful color. Beautiful fit.
Thank you, Mary! 💕
Beautiful, you truly are inspiring me to get back to sewing outfits for myself. Not just repairs or only tops…but the full outfit.
Thank you
Yeeesss, Monica! Let’s go, sister! Put those skills to work for yourself. I love this so much. Glad I could be a part of your inspiration to get back to it. Happy Sewing! 💕
Beautiful dress on you Anita and the colour is perfect I bought this pattern as a beginner as it said Easy started to make a muslin and gave up as realised it was a bit too complicated I still have it and now feel I could give it another go . You are building up one amazing wardrobe Well Done 👌👏❤️
Evelyn, I’m glad to hear that you will give it another try. Yes, sometimes the ratings don’t take into consideration the new beginner. The good part is that you made muslin first. Very smart choice.. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. Have a great weekend.💕
Miss Anita
Beautiful dress beautiful color on you. I can see myself making this numerous times in different colors and lengths. Thank you for sharing and being honest on your sewing.
Oh my goodness, Charlotte! I am right there with you. I’m about to cut out another dress with this pattern in a tea length. I couldn’t wait because I love it so much. I’m so happy to know that you appreciate me being transparent about my sewing — the good, bad, and ugly. 😂
Best part I enjoy is your detailed pictures. They are very clear and zoomed in. At my age it’s getting harder to see the details. Thank you! You’re a very beautiful woman.
Oh, this makes my heart so happy, Anna! I am the same way. I want to see the details closeup. Thank you for sharing with me that you appreciate that part of my blog posts. I really do enjoy creating the posts because I know they can be helpful sometimes when we’re considering sewing a garment for ourselves. It’s so nice to see in on someone else other than the pattern model first. I appreciate you, Anna. Thank you for being here. 💕
I found you on YouTube a few months as I was researching how to use my BabyLock Imagine serger. It was purchased several years ago & was STILL in the box. I then watched your BabyLock Euphoria sessions & went to a Pennsylvania authorized dealer to purchase. Your YT sessions are incredible & you’re a terrific instructor. BabyLock is fortunate to have you. I’m enjoying learning to use both machines & they’re a wonderful addition to the other three sewing / embroidery machines in my small sewing space. One is my late grandmother’s Singer treadle machine that still works, one is a Kenmore Model 158-18140 with an array of ‘design cams’, purchased while expecting my first child in 1970 & it too still works with NO problems. Purchasing a ‘combo’ serger / cover stitch was of no interest.
The maxi-dress is lovely & will serve you well at various venues. I look forward to future blog posts & sewing ideas. Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing about your sewing machines. Congratulations on your new additions. I love all my Baby Lock machines so much. I still have my old mechanical Viking Husqvarna Emerald 118, and it’s still works with NO problems as well. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you for being here.💕
amigo, don’t EVER get rid of that Kenmore machine. I had one my Dad purchased for my sister and me around 1960, and it was made of cast iron and weighed a ton. Just a couple years ago the food pedal started working by itself, overheating and almost setting my carpeting on fire. So I ditched it and now wish I had just had it serviced and repaired. The sewing needle threaded from left to right, an easy and logical way for it to work. My sister gave me her old Singer, which threads from front to back, which I’ve been told most machines thread that way now. But it’s not convenient to pull the thread backwards when you can’t get your fingers behind the presser foot that holds the needle, and it’s so much more convenient to pull the top and bottom threads sideways instead of backwards and away from you. I’m sure it was a non-sewing man who decided to engineer a sewing machine that way. Those old Kenmore machines are indestructible, so don’t ever get rid of it!
Miss Anita,
Beautiful dress, beautiful fabric, beautiful drape!! I can see you making this again in a shorter length to accommodate lower heel shoes if you want. Love this in the heels
Lynette, thank you so much for coming back to leave your comment. Sister!!! I am about to cut out this dress again in a tea length because I love it so much. This time I’m using a more stable fabric. I’m so excited because I’ve already styled it in my head. 🤗
Hi Anita,
Lovely outfit. Responding to your test request.
Thank you so much, Cheryl! I appreciate you.💕
What a stunning dress… the color is lovely and the dress looks amazing on you! Thank you for sharing the details about the keyhole neckline and pocket (great solutions) and the aggravating hem (good encouragement for those of us with less experience).
Hi Libby! You are very welcome. Yes, I love to receive a heads up about issues with patterns I’m planning to sew. Just being aware ahead of time gives us opportunity to make adjustments. I love learning from the experience of others. Thank you for being here.💕
Hello Anita! I love the dress and your hairstyle looks fabulous!
I actually have this pattern in my stash. Thank you for the inspiration!
Stacy
Thank you so much, Stacy! I’m having fun with the new hairstyle. Awesome that you already have the pattern. Have fun when you sew it up. 💕
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing your tips on securing the pockets and letting the dress hang for a bit before hemming. I love the detailed description of your work, it’s so helpful!
You are so very welcome, Patricia. Yes, these tips we learn along the way are so helpful for the success of future garments. The sewing community is so generous, with a wealth of information to help us improve our techniques and advance our sewing skills.💕

Of course, this is darling on you!!! And I love the simplicity of the style. It’s hot here also. So this one might be my next make! Love your tips, especially the pocket tip!
Rose Mary, I love the simplicity of the design too. It just exudes elegance. You should really give this one a try. I’m about to make another one. Thank you so much for your feedback.💕
Wow! 🤩
Thank you, GeeGee! 💕
You did it again. What a beautiful dress and the color is fabulous. I love it and the inside is so clean. I agree I don’t like my cleavage showing either.
Thank you so much, Shari! Yaaay, for team modesty! 💕
Awesome fabric choice. Love the color. Blessings of health and happiness to you. Sincerely Denise AKA : Mother bear sewing

Love ya, Anita!
I love YOU!!!!!! This put a smile on my heart. Thank you, Betty! 💕
Dear Anita, you are so incredibly inspiring. The colour is one of my favourite shades of green. The style suits you perfectly. Keep on doing what you do, because you’re living a dream that so many would like to live, including me🙏🏽
Oh Daphne, my heart! Your message really touched my heart. I do believe I’m living a dream, but it reaches far beyond sewing. God is teaching me so much about Himself, His love, humanity, humility, forgiveness, and so much more. Honestly, the more I get to know Him, the more I crave, thirst and hunger for more of Him. I’m in awe every time He answers a specific prayer for me. I don’t know why I’m surprised all the time because that’s His nature. He answers the prayers that are in alignment with His character, with His Holy Scriptures. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here. Thank you for encouraging me with your words. Thank you for being here, Daphne. 💕
I think this is a great color on you, Anita! The style is similar to the first gown I ever had that I bought with my mom in New York City so we could attend a concert that my sister was singing in. Therefore, this means it’s a classic style and so feminine and so comfortable. The one thing it had was a bar broach where the split neck and the skirt met. It was made of a jersey type material as it was very hot and humid, even back then. My sister was returning from Europe with an International chorus. We were all very excited about it! I don’t have a website but I do have FB and Instagram.
Jackie, thank you so much for sharing your memory with me. I smiled as I read and imagined what that moment must have felt like as you watched your sister in the concert while wearing your pretty and comfortable dress. I appreciate you for coming here to share with me. It really does bless my heart to hear sweet stories about people in our sewing community. Thank you for blessing my heart today. 💕
Beautiful and elegant! There are many places to wear this dress! 💕❤️💕
Yes, I agree with you Terri! I plan to get lots of wear from the dress. 💕
Love you, Anita. Thank you for sharing your talent. Kim Oliver
Kimberley, I love you too. 💕 You have always been so very supportive of what I do here for a VERY long time. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough to express my gratitude, but please know that your longtime presence doesn’t go unnoticed. I appreciate you more than words can express. You are my SEW Sister forever! 💕💕💕
Ms. Anita, that is a beautiful dress and you look stunning! I was on the phone with my husband yesterday when I saw your email and exclaimed, “WOW, Ms.Anita!” He asked, “Who’s Anita?” 😂. Your hair looks great as well.
😂🤣😂 That is so funny! I’ve been there before when I see someone’s creation and it stops me in my tracks. Sometimes you just have to let it out in the moment. 😂 Thanks you so much for your feedback and making me laugh. Have a wonderful weekend.💕
Love this pattern especially the pocket hack❤️
Thank you so much, Debra! Yes, that pattern hack is a total game changer. 🤗
Dress looks beautiful. I like your pocket modification and suggestion to let the dress hang overnight before hemming.
My question is on deciding size, did you select your usual McCalls dress pattern size or use the finished garment bust measurement listed on pattern envelope?
Thank you so much, Janice. Yes, these tips we learn along the way really do help to improve our sewing skills. I chose my cutting size based on the finished bust measurement listed on the front bodice pattern piece.💕
Gorgeous dress!! As usual, phenomenally crafted and beautifully modeled!
Thank you so much, Susan! 💕
The dress is absolutely beautiful on you!
Thank you so much, Kim. I appreciate you. 💕

Thank you so much Victoria! 💕💕💕
As always. This is just stunning on you! You can easily wear this into Fall with a shawl or jacket. You are the one who has inspired me to get back into sewing after 20-year career break. Now that I’m retired I find I enjoy sewing more and more, and it’s videos like yours that keep me motivated when my results are less than optimal. Please keep them coming!
Patty!!!! Yes, it will be a beautiful transition into fall. My heart is beyond grateful that I could be one who has inspired you to return to sewing. Congratulations on your retirement. I totally understand about enjoying sewing more in retirement. YES! Happy Sewing and learning! 💕🤗💕

Cute, cool, and comfort, I agree, Anita, though I would add chic also!
Thank you so much, Nancy! I would agree with you that it’s also chic. 💕
Anita that dress looks so cute on you. The color is perfect and I love the way u have your hair in the photos! Such a cute little change up for you. Going to check out the website for the fabric. It’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Oh, thank you so much, Yvette! I’m enjoying the change up too. I was getting real bored. Have fun checking out new fabrics.💕

Looks great and, with that color, it should be a nice transition piece into fall.
Thank you so much, Kathy! Yes, I agree that it will transition beautifully into fall. 🤗
I’ve made view C from this pattern from a different type of fabric. Currently, yours is gorgeous, and mine looks like a dishrag because it’s not pressed. 🙂 Really thinking about making another one, or one from View D because I like yours. Well done!
Amy!!! 😂 You did not say, “dishrag”. Stooooop!!! 🤣 I’m about to make another one too with a more stable fabric in tea length. I’m so excited. Have fun when you make your next one. I appreciate you for your feedback, Amy. 💕
You and the dress are beautiful 😍
Thank you so much, Colleen!💕
Greetings Anita this maxi dress is beautiful. I just love it. I am in the process of moving. I want to sign up for your course. I love all of your projects. I watch them for hours on end. You are so sweet and it is like we are family. I love your humble presence. I continue to pray for you and your strength. You are doing such an amazing job. I am a modest woman and I love the modest apparel you make. peace be and GOD BLESS
Felecia!!!! My SEW Sister in Christ! You just made my heart smile real big. Thank you so much for sharing your heart with me. I church your prayers dearly. Felicia, our Heavenly Father has kept me all these years and I feel so blessed to be called His daughter. I didn’t think I could be happy again after my husband passed, but here I am. I never lost my joy because that comes from Holy Spirit who dwells within me. But happiness eluded me for a long while because it’s circumstantial. After God, sewing has played a huge part in my healing journey. Thank you for watching my videos and thank you for being here. I appreciate you so much, Felicia. God bless you, sister. Have a wonderful weekend. 💕

I love this look and the versatility to wear it formally or casually. You did a great job. I would be interested to learn more about those pocket holders if you ever try it as well as the various methods of evening up the hem.
Thank you so much, Kermeisha! Yes, if I ever try Isabel’s pocket trick, I’ll share with the community. And definitely will share any other methods of correcting uneven hems whenever I try them. 💕
The dress is fabulous, Anita! I like the colour you selected. It suits you. It looks much better than the one shown on the envelope. Thank you for the tip on adjusting the pocket pattern piece. I also prefer to anchor the pockets to the waistband, and I love the idea of using a hook and eye to create an unintentional design detail.
Thank you so much, Angela! The color is what made the dress so beautiful. I’m glad you liked the pocket adjustment tip. the hook and eye worked out really well. I appreciate you for leaving a comment. 💕
