I’m Anita Morris, the founder of the popular DIY Fashion Brand, Anita by Design. I inspire and teach new beginners all over the world how to master the basics of garment sewing. I’m also a transformational speaker, sharing a message of hope, perseverance, and triumph for those who are living in the midst and aftermath of devastating life trials. I’m the Best Selling Author of, STEP Into It, Overcoming Trials that Lead to Purpose.

Anita by Design was born after a very devastating life experience, when I found myself crying on the floor in my bedroom closet, after a heartbreaking discovery, wondering how I would ever be okay again. As a woman of faith, I sought the guidance of God to help me recover. As He nourished my soul, I turned to my sewing machine as a creative outlet.

It was through my faith and creativity that I began to sew the pieces of my life back together again, one stitch at a time. When asked how I was able to get through the storm, my answer is: “It was Jesus and a Sewing Machine.” While sharing my projects with the sewing community, I quickly realized that I was onto something. In 2016, I launched the Anita by Design Blog and YouTube Channel.

How I Learned to Sew

I learned to sew in the early 90’s when I found a lady in Los Angeles who had a private studio where she taught me the basics. I learned how to read a pattern, cut fabric, sew stitches and use a serger. Yes, I used a serger on my very first garment.

After taking a few classes with her, I purchased as many books as I could on the topics I needed to learn to increase my knowledge and skills. The Singer Sewing Reference Library was my go-to resource. I loved those books and learned almost everything I needed by reading and studying the illustrations.

After sewing for about two years, I took a break to raise my family. I returned in 2014 and found a huge sewing community online. I’ve been sewing and continuing to build my skills through both videos and books ever since.

What I Love

I love Jesus, my sons, Tea Parties, and Sisterhood.

I’m a woman of faith, and Jesus is my everything. He’s my source of living and I seek to honor Him in every area of my life, including the sewing community.

My two sons are my treasures. Being their mom is my greatest joy in life. There is no greater love than to give birth and watch a life blossom before your eyes. They are my heartbeats.

I’m a lover of tea parties. I enjoy hosting tea for friends at my home, and visiting tea rooms. Oh, the delicate china, tea sandwiches, scones, beautiful hats and glamorous dresses! It all makes me squeal.

I’m a huge fan of sisterhood. Being in community with other women feeds my soul. I love to see sisters supporting each other, cheering one another, growing and learning together.

What Makes Me Proud

I’m a Best Selling Author. After going through the most devastating trial of my life, I wrote a book to help you to navigate through the difficult process of overcoming your own personal trials and stepping into the purpose for which you are created.

I’m also proud of my very successful Online Sewing Course where women all over the world are learning to sew for the first time and finding great results.
