NEW LOOK 6665

When you sew the same dress, back to back, you know it’s all love. There’s no exaggeration when I say this, “I want to sew it in all my favorite colors.” This Fit & Flare Dress is checking off all the boxes – elegance, class, style, timeless, beautiful. How would you describe it? Let’s get into the details.

Pattern Information

NEW LOOK 6665Β is a sleeveless, fit and flare dress with a lined bodice, optional shoulder ties, bodice piping detail at neckline and armholes, center back invisible zipper and length variations. The bodice includes a midriff panel, front pleats, and back darts. The skirt has front and back pleats, and side seam pockets.

The pattern is available in print option only, with a limited size range of 4 – 16. It is rated as AVERAGE and I agree. However, I do believe that an ADVANCED BEGINNER with lots of experience may be able to complete this project. Perhaps the piping and zipper installations will be the most challenging parts. Nevertheless, I”ve created a Sew Along Video to help you complete the dress. The video will be available soon.

Fabric Information

The fabric suggestions on back of the envelope are as follows; Chintz, Cotton Types, Crepe de Chine, Gingham, Linen Types, Poplin, and Sateen. I used a MIDWEIGHT EUROPEAN LINEN from Core Fabrics in the color Hunter Green. I absolutely love their midweight linen. It’s high quality and feels great against the skin.

FIT & FLARE DRESS

The linen is a great choice for this dress. It has just enough drape for movement in the skirt, but also allows for enough structure to achieve fullness to create the flared effect.

Core Fabrics is located in Canada. Therefore, those of us who reside in the United States must pay tariff fees to have their products shipped to us. The team at Core fabrics has worked hard to provide an easier transaction for U.S. customers by applying the tariff fee to our orders at checkout. In this way, we don’t have to pay when our order arrives. They’ve eliminated an extra step for us. Core Fabrics has also curated a U.S. Low Tariff Collection of fabrics with the lowest fees.Β

Also, you can get 15% off your entire order from Core Fabrics by using my code ANITA*15 (excludes sale items). This code is available to both U.S. and Non-U.S. residents.

Inside the Garment

I used my BABY LOCK CHORUS Sewing Machine and BABY LOCK VIBRANT Serger to sew the dress. Here are closeup photos of the inside and outside of the garment.

Notions Information

The notions listed on the envelope are; Thread, 22β€³ Invisible Zipper, 2 1/8 Yard of 1/8β€³ piping. Optional Ties: 1 1/4 yard of 1/4β€³ ribbon. Core Fabrics sent me GÜTERMANN THREAD to match the fabric in the color Pine.

Alterations Information

I cut a size 8. For in-depth information on the alterations I made, check out THIS POST. I also lengthened View A to create the tea-length. I used a ruler to add 9 1/4″ to the cutting line which gave me a 48″ hem. I’m demonstrating the length alteration in the Sew Along Video.

Styling Options

The styling options for this dress are bountiful. First, I’ve styled it with a pair of light beige pumps, animal print purse and pearls. I plan to wear it to church with the same pumps and a cream colored tote bag to carry my Bible, note book, and other items I use at church. Of course I keep a light sweater or scarf in my tote to cover my shoulders and arms if it gets cool.

I’m taking the dress into fall by layering it with a sweater.Β

Of course a pair of black pumps is in order for such an elegant dress. Paired with the sweater and black pouch bag and simple gold jewelry, it’s the look of pure elegance.

I’m also planning to wear it this winter with my sweater, tights, black boots and crossbody bag. I can add a scarf around my neck and pull the sleeves down for more warmth. I think it would also look nice with a cropped jacket or blazer. Yes, I plan to make this an all season dress. I love it that much.

Anita, this hunter green screams prosperity and the midi length is so classy. This is a beautiful dress and you wear it exceptionally well. Since seasonal temperatures fluctuate so much, having a sleeveless dress to layer in the late fall, winter and early spring is smart. One can look gorgeous and be comfortable regardless of the temperature while wearing this dress. As always, your sewing is impeccable. It’s amazing how you make the inside of a garment look as good as the outside. True professionalism!! Thanks for sharing this project! I love it!!

    Hey Anita,

This is a beautiful dress. All the words you used to describe it, I agree. It looks soft and comfortable too….so I would describe it that way too.

I tend to wear my sleeveless dresses year round, even in NY, because I layer on top of them. I actually prefer to wear it that way, hence Fall and Spring are my favorite layering season 😊

Looking forward to the sew along.

    Thank you as always!

Thank you so much, Lynette! Oh, I love that you wear your sleeveless dresses year round too. That’s saying something from New York. Enjoy the sew along.

Simply beautiful…my home economics teacher(from the 1970’s…lol) always stressed that the construction and look of the inside of the garment was just important as the look on the outside. Your work is always so meticulous…hence the professional look of your pieces …I love it!

Thank you so much. I learned the same thing. My instructor had a serger and she taught me to use it immediately. My very first garment had finished seam allowances. I’m the only one who sees it, but that’s important for me.

Stunning hunter green fabric and dress! I love how you will make it an all season garment! What a way to utilize our handmade wardrobe! Beautiful job!

Thank you Marjorie! I’m so in love with the color. Yes, I love it when I can wear something I make in several seasons. πŸ€—

I love this dress and the linen fabric is a plus. The tea length is my favorite. The accessories are just gorgeous. You wear it all well.
