Do you own a serger? I was introduced to the serger when I first learned to sew many years ago. My instructor had one in her studio, and I used it on my very first project. I knew immediately that I wanted to purchase one for myself, and I did.
However, for many years, I only used the serger to finish off the raw edges of my garments. It wasn’t until last year, 2018, that I made a complete garment using the serger. For a long time, I didn’t even know that was possible.
After Baby Lock sent me the Vibrant Serger from the Genuine Collection, I knew I needed to take full advantage of the many options available with this specialty machine. Why? It’s simple! I wanted to introduce the Vibrant, that was specifically designed with beginners in mind, to my audience.
Along with the machine, they sent me the Baby Lock Serger 6 Foot Kit, designed exclusively for the Vibrant.
If you followed the Vibrant Serger Series on my YouTube channel, then you’ve already seen how amazing the blind hem foot is, because I used it to hem the t-shirt I made in that video.
Now, I’d like to introduce you to all 6 feet in the kit, and give you a sample of what they can create. This is total goodness! Then I have a treat for you at the end. Hehehe!!!
ELASTIC FOOT
The Elastic Foot provides even tension and prevents pulling on the needles when attaching elastic to your projects. The tension dial on the foot allows you to decide how much the elastic will be stretched during application. All you have to do is insert the elastic and fabric, choose the amount of tension you want, and the foot does the rest for you. Quick & Easy!
RUFFLING FOOT
I KNOW that I’m not the only one who would put gathering low on the list of favorite sewing techniques. In fact, it doesn’t even make my list. Even though there are numerous techniques that make it easier, having a foot attachment that will do the work for me is a hand clapping YES!!! This foot does it ALL for you. Just load your fabric and sew. That’s it!
BLINDHEM FOOT
When I saw that there was a blindhem foot for the Vibrant, I had to stop for a minute to gather my thoughts. Hahaha!!! Seriously, I didn’t know how that was going to work. Then I became excited and decided to try it before any of the others.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you already know that I like to dance when something good happens in the sewing studio. Yep! I got my boogie on when I sewed that first blind hem. Hahaha!!! It was just that good.
This foot comes in two sizes, 0.5mm and 1.0mm. There is prep-work involved before serging the blind hem, but after you insert the fabric, the foot takes care of the rest.
BEADING FOOT
The Beading Foot is one of those attachments that makes you grab your face with both hands, while your mouth hangs open from sheer delight. You can quickly serge pearls, piping, cording and other decorative trims to the edge of fabric. I see handbags embellished with beads, collars with cording, and so much more that can be created with this foot.
CORDING FOOT
We’ve all seen how sewists are creating their own decorative piping and cording for sewing projects. Have you tried making your own piping yet? I have to admit that I always used purchased cording for home decor projects many years ago. Now I can create my own piping for garments because the Cording Foot will make it a lot easier. This foot has a groove at the tip for placement of the cording, which helps to keep you centered on the cord. Custom piping, here I come.
Serger 6 Foot Kit Demonstration
Now that you’ve seen the feet that are included with the kit, how about a video demonstration? Yep! I’ve uploaded a step-by-step video to my YouTube channel, showing you how the feet work on the Vibrant Serger. Click the photo below to view the video.
