McCALL’S 7812 | SEW-ALONG ALERT

Hey Sew Sisters (and Brothers)! Since my last blog post, I’ve been on a roll. Whoooo Weeee! I don’t know where all this energy is coming from, but this sister is rolling with it while it lasts. Hahaha!!! Are you ready for a McCall’s 7812 Sew-Along?

If you’re part of my Private Email Community, then you’ve probably already seen the Pattern Review video that I posted to YouTube for this top, because I sent out a heads up email to let you know it was coming. In that email, I also shared that a Sew-Along would follow.

After posting the pattern review video, I received a few questions about the wide opening on the neckline. Since there seems to be concern about bra straps showing and discomfort with such a wide opening, I’ve included a pattern alteration in the sew-along. It’s a simple one that you can use on any top where you need to close up the neckline a bit. I only added 1/2″ but you can certainly add more to achieve the amount of coverage you need.

This sew-along is for beginners and has lots of details. It’s a very easy sew with only 3 pattern pieces. You will get tips on how to sew a narrow hem, create casings for ties, sew your own ties from fabric used to make the top, and learn a quick and easy way to turn narrow ties right side out. For this technique, I’m introducing you to a fabulous tool that I’ve been using for a long time, which has served me very well and simplified the task.

Fabric Options

Here are some of the fabric options available for making this top. In the pattern review video, I shared the types of knits that are suggested on the pattern envelope, so you can take a look at some of the pretty prints and solids available at Fabric.com. , ,

Sewing Supplies

Most of the supplies you’ll need to sew the top can be found in my Amazon Store. If you’re new to sewing, I have curated a Beginner’s Sewing Kit just for you in the store, which includes the very basics you’ll need to begin your sewing journey. With all the sewing of masks happening currently, several of the items are out of stock. As things settle down, I’m sure the merchants will restock their merchandise as soon as possible.

I hope you will enjoy the sew-along. Click on the photo below to watch.

I love this pattern and appreciate the info on how to raise the neckline. I had to wear mine with a tank for work. I’ll be glad to remake it with a higher neckline because I LOVE the front ruching and peplum view!

Awesome, Josie! Yes, elastic works great for rouching too.
