Are you ready for a PENCIL SKIRT SEW ALONG? This is the 3rd skirt in our Sewing Skirts with Anita Series and I’m super excited about it. I’m a huge fan of pencil skirts and used to have them in so many colors. Over time I’ve gotten rid of them but now I’m on a mission to rebuild my pencil skirt collection. Oh gosh, I can just see it now, pencil skirts in all colors, prints and fabric types. YES!
Pencil skirts are very versatile and appropriate for all seasons. I love to wear them in knits, woven, solids and prints. They look great with beautiful blouses, t-shirts, sweaters, tanks and blazers. I LOVE to see pencil skirts paired with blazers. They look classy, sexy and powerful. So now I need to sew some blazers to accompany all the pencil skirts I plan to make.
The video is one hour long. I know, I know—I said I would keep the rest under an hour. But listen, we’re making a lining AND belt to go with the skirt. I tried to cut it down more, but the information I share will be helpful for those who have never created this type of garment. You all seem to appreciate the details, so I left as many as I could without going over an hour (Well, I went over by one minute.).
Remember, this Sew-Along Series is for those who have learned the basic techniques of sewing. There are some steps that I skipped, like sewing the back darts, which are taught in my Beginner’s Sewing Course.
The video is now available and I have another pencil skirt added to my wardrobe. YES!!!
I styled it with this white linen top that was gifted to me several years ago. Pairing it with the turtle neck sweater and booties gives it a fall vibe. Add some tights with the booties and you’re ready for winter. I love the way it looks with my knee-high boots, and I’ll add a black waist-coat on cold days.
I can’t wait to wear this skirt to church on Sunday. Yes, I’m rocking pink in the fall and winter. That’s one of the great benefits of sewing for ourselves. We’re not bound by seasonal colors that the department stores offer. We get to do it OUR WAY!
If you like the clutch purse I’m carrying, there’s a Sew Along Video for it on my YouTube Channel HERE.

Dear Anita,
I love all the looks of this pencil skirt. And I’m super loving the combination with the plum top. But let’s face it, no one can ignore that smile. You are wonderfully made and it shows. Thank you for sharing, teaching, and inspiration.
Hi my friend,
I am loving everything about this skirt. I am intimidated by the lining, but looking forward to trying it out. Thank you as always for teaching us so patiently. Have a great day ~ Lynette
Hi Lynette! You can do it. Take your time.
Love it! And with the temperatures dropping, I definitely want to include linings into more of my garments. Very timely sew-along!❤️
Yes, the lining is a must.
Please take as much time as you need to show me what you wanna show me. ?
Thank you for that Theresa.
