Happy New Year everyone! We’re four days into the new year now, so I hope you’re off to a good start. I don’t have a long list of changes or promises for the new year. The only thing I will say about 2017 is this: I have a desire to go to the next level. That means I want to kick it up a notch. How that plays out will remain to be seen. If you’re not already subscribed to my blog, I invite you to get subscribed today to insure that you don’t miss out on what I believe will be a fantastic year of sewing. So let’s get into it with my Happy New Year Outfit for 2017.
Happy New Year Outfit – 2017
My first look for 2017 includes two pieces. I created the dress using a Burda Shirt Pattern with raglan sleeves that I lengthened to just below the knee, which is the perfect length for the knee-high boots. This pattern is super easy, as stated on the pattern envelope (beginner friendly). It only requires 4 pattern pieces and can be made in about an hour. I’m in love with this pattern and I’ve already picked out several fabrics from my stash to make another dress and two or three shirts. The gorgeous fabric used for this dress is another lightweight stretch knit from my stash that I picked up from the Michael Levine Loft. It has a gorgeous shimmering effect that isn’t captured in the photos, similar to a metallic knit. The floor length kimono vest is another easy sew that’s a great piece for beginners. I used an open-weave knit for this one–also from my Michael Levine Loft stash (available on website). To make the sleeveless option, only 2 pattern pieces are required. There’s nothing more exciting for me than sewing together an outfit using incredibly easy patterns with simple lines and allowing the fabric choices to give them life. Then of course the accessories have to be added in the complete the look. I’m very pleased with the outcome, and proud to wear this as my first 2017 DIY. It’s actually for our next date night this weekend. Now I’m pretty sure you’re all wondering, “Who is this lady on Anita’s blog?” Teehehehee!!! It’s me!!! I’m playing around with new hair. I was ready for a change so I purchased this new wig. Tell me what you think. I really do love how wigs have improved since back in the day when my mother and aunts wore them. They’re very lightweight and can look pretty natural if you work with them. There are so many cute short wigs out there, but not every wig looks good on every head. This one is called Fab Fringe by Sensationnel. It comes a lot fuller and longer in the front, but I went in and shortened and thinned it out a bit with my razor comb because I don’t like hair covering my eyes. I also thinned the sides. I like it but I don’t LOVE it yet, and I need to love it to keep wearing it. So I’ll rock it for a minute to see if it grows to the love stage. I used to change my hair all the time, but I haven’t made any changes in years. Since my husband is retiring, I think it’s time to spice it up a bit. So, if you start seeing a lady on my blog with different hair styles, it’s just me, having a little fun. Hehehe!

Hi Genevieve! Thank you so much! I sewed a small.

Thank you Delilah! Welcome to the sewing course. Have fun with it!
That dress is stunning on you. Unfortunately, I do not have the body to wear such a lovely garment. I’d need industrial strength Spanx and would still look like a stuffed sausage. Your hair looks so lovely as it highlights your beautiful face. I’m working on the last dress in the beginners’ tutorial and it’s coming along just fine. Thank you. I’m still working on my dresses for Haiti. They are so much fun to make. I wish you and your lovely family all the joys and blessings of a brand new year. God bless.
Hi Marilyn! Thank you so much! I’m just thrilled to hear that you’ve been sewing with me in the beginner’s course. Awesome that you’re making t-shirt dresses for Haiti too. You’re making me smile. God bless you too.

The hair, the dress, you are definitely starting 2017 off right, Ms. Anita. If this is the beginning I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the rest of the year. I pray that this new year brings you more love, peace, and prosperity than you could ever imagine. Keep inspiring us, continue to walk in His design, and always remember God’s plans for us are always bigger and better than those we have for ourselves. Blessings to you and your family.
Florence
Thank you Florence! I recieve every word of encouragement you have spoken to me. Thank you for the blessing.
Happy New Year! The outfit…the color…absolutely amazing!!! The wig…. she’s a keeper!!!The handsome fella ..aka your son…. feel the love!!!! Looking forward to an exciting 2017 with you…
Thanks my sew sister!
Such a handsome son!
So I have never worn wigs before and equated them with being ‘wiggy’ (you know what I mean!) and unnatural. Well, well, well! Let me tell you I have been introduced to the new and improved versions! And as a matter of fact, I have one en route to me now! I LOVE IT! It looks fantastic!
Now, that dress and vest is hot! The color is phenomenal and it all fits expertly.
Yes, yes, yes! I know exactly what you mean. That “wiggy,” unnatural look is just a “NO.” If you don’t like the way it looks when you put it on, just play with it. I always alter my wigs. I never wear them “as-is” from the package. It’s better to style them to your liking. If you haven’t done so already, go on youtube and look for wig review videos for the wig you purchased. There are some ladies on the YT who are rocking the world out of these wigs.
Ms Anita!!!!! I’m loving the new hair, FABULOUS!!!!! and love your outfit too!!!
Thank you Jennifer!
Happy New Year!
