MEET BABY LOCK CHORUS

BABY LOCK CHORUS

When I first learned to sew, I started with a very basic mechanical sewing machine. I created so many amazing garments and even made clothing for others with that machine. Never once did I ever imagine that one day I would own a dream machine. Even after upgrading to my next mechanical machine (which I still have), a high-end sewing machine wasn’t on my radar. Years later, here I am, introducing you to the ultimate sewing machine, and it belongs to ME. OMGosh! Somebody pinch me, please. Meet the Baby Lock Chorus sewing machine.

BABY LOCK CHORUS

As a Baby Lock Ambassador, I received this sewing machine as part of our partnership. Today’s post is sponsored by Baby Lock. I received my Baby Lock Chorus earlier this year, and I’ve taken a lot of  time getting to know her, testing the features, sewing garments, and learning as much as I can about the machine. Let me tell you, it is truly a dream and I can’t wait to share more with you. But for now, here are a few details and some of my favorite features on the machine.

BABY LOCK CHORUS

MACHINE ACCESSORIES

Whenever I get a new sewing machine, the first thing I like to do is read through the entire Owner’s Manual. I want to know everything about the machine. I go through all the accessories to make sure I have everything, using the Instruction and Reference Guide to match all parts in the box to the illustrations. Here is a look at everything that comes with the Baby Lock Chorus.

BABY LOCK CHORUS

The Chorus has a very large flat bed, making it ideal for working with large pieces of fabric. It also comes with a large extension table (not pictured), which creates an even larger space for sewing items, like coats and quilts. The sewing table has two separate storage compartments (one in front, and another in back) to store some of the machine accessories.

When my machine is not being used, I always keep it protected with the dust cover.

MACHINE STITCHES

After making sure all accessories are present, I dive into practicing and using the features. Part of that is testing the stitches that come with the machine. The Chorus comes with more stitches than I will ever use, but I decided to create a Stitch Sample Banner. I love the idea of being able to see the stitches on fabric because it is a real representation of what they will look like when I use them on my sewing projects.

BABY LOCK CHORUS

After finishing my banner, I loved it so much that I’ve decided to make more so that I will have samples of more stitches. I plan to keep the banners near my machine and perhaps I will be inspired to be more creative with my projects. One thing I know for sure. Everyone will receive embroidered Christmas presents this year. 😂

AUTOMATIC FABRIC SENSOR

While there are many features that I love about the Baby Lock Chorus, I thought I would mention a couple in this post that are very valuable, beginning with the Automatic Fabric Sensor System. When turned on, this feature detects the thickness of the fabric and adjusts the presser foot pressure automatically while sewing. I’ve included an example below of the outcome from sewing over 16 layers of denim.

BABY LOCK CHORUS

I turned on the Automatic Fabric Sensor System, and began sewing. I did not have to make any other adjustments. Before turning on the feature, I sewed over 8 layers of denim with no problem.

I used a Size 16 Universal Needle and All Purpose Polyester Thread. My stitch length was set to 3.5 mm. The sewing was very smooth.

The seams were secure and tight.

PRESSER FEET & STITCH COMBINATIONS

Baby Lock Chorus comes with several presser feet and there are built-in stitches that work with the feet. One of my favorite foot/stitch combinations is the Blind Hem. There are two blind hem stitch options, one for woven and another to be used with stretch fabrics. Combined with the Blind Stitch Foot, these stitches create professional looking hems quickly. The guide on the bottom of the foot helps to produce even stitches along the fold.

Here is a closeup view of the finished hem. Can you locate the stitches? As long as you use the same color thread as the fabric, you will get a beautiful, clean hem.

Here is the backside of the hem. The yellow thread is the blind hem stitch pattern.

Looking at the underside of the hem, you can see where the white thread picked up a small amount of fabric to create the hem.

CHORUS YOUTUBE SERIES

I’ve created a new series on my YouTube channel all about the Chorus sewing machine. There are two episodes currently available and Episode 3 is coming soon. In Episode 1, I’m showing you all the different parts off the machine. Get a closeup look at all the accessories that come with the machine in Episode 2. You will find all the videos here in the BABY LOCK CHORUS PLAYLIST on my YouTube channel.

Thanks for sharing information on this beautiful machine. My Kenmore machine is 20 yrs old and I’m not sure how much longer it’s going to last. Eleven months ago I watched one of your sew-alongs and was inspired to sew more. I’m going to look very closely at the Babylock Chorus as my next machine.

Very interesting to see what the Chorus can do! It has the right owner, as you are someone who will take the time to try out all the features and put them to very good use!

I know I would love the Baby Lock Chorus. I’ve been a Baby Lock serger user for over 30 years. I have an older Brother machine similar to that one that still sews really well. I was surprised at the price. I thought it would cost at least $12K. Baby Lock has some machines in that price range. Does the Chorus have automatic threading? Not just the needle. It looks like there is a self-threading button next to the speed control button. Thanks for introducing us to Miss Chorus!

Anita, thank you for sharing all that information on the Chorus Baby Lock machine. Especially love how you displayed the stitch samples on your banner! I’m not in the market for one but your post was very impactful and informative! I am a big Bernina fan for many years and have invested more than I should have in my current machine…but still, you never know if someone can be persuaded to change (smile).

You’re very well, Cecil. Once we find a brand that we love, we become loyal and that’s a good thing. I love to share because, like you said, you never know who may be interested.

  8. Lynette R Patrice

    Good morning,

You had me at 16 layers!!!! Love the thought of that, because I love to make bags, totes, wallets, etc. I’m sure it will be a dream to sew clothes too.

Thank you so much for sharing sis

    1. Anita Morris

That’s exactly what I was thinking, Lynette. People who make bags and sew upholstery items would love this machine.
