Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far. It’s Wednesday, so only two more work days until the weekend break. I’ve been busy organizing my sewing studio and getting prepared for the Beginner’s Sewing Course. Get ready, because I’ve chosen some fun, but simple, pieces for you to create as you learn to sew. Ooooh, I can’t wait to get you started and see all your lovely creations.
Sweater Cardigan & Skirt
I’m so in love with this outfit that I can hardly stand myself. When I first purchased this fabric I wasn’t sure what I would make with it, but I knew that whatever I decided would be fabulous. The fabric is a medium weight sweater knit and feels amazing. I picked it up from the Michael Levine Loft in Los Angeles. At the Loft, fabric is only $3/pound, so I scored. It cost me under $15 to make this sweater cardigan & skirt. That’s insane people! The pattern and accessory details are listed below. The cardigan can be worn with a pair of jeans or leggings for a more casual look.
As I write this post I’m sitting in our favorite hotel in Las Vegas, looking out at the city through the humongous window that takes up the entire outer wall. My husband and I are not gamblers, so that’s not what draws us to Las Vegas. We come here to eat and see the shows. We’re not sure which show we’ll see this time, as we’ve decided to live on the “wild” side and try a same-day ticket purchase at one of the discount booths. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll be wearing my new outfit to dinner tomorrow night, and the show if we get tickets. I’m gonna feel so pretty!

Slay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love the outfit, and I’m crazy about the fabric
Oh my gosh! I am a great grandmother and I love “this mom look” (lol). Keep making things like this and pretty soon I will have the patience! I love it!
I’m 53 almost and I refuse to dress like I don’t have mirrors!
I definitely learned that I have to have more vision when I saw this outfit. Looking at the pattern, I would have never guessed that such a classy outfit would have come from it. Great job!
The moment I saw this outfit I recognized that cardigan!!! I’ve been OBSESSING about Simplicity 8059 since I first saw it. I LOVE that pattern. I intend to make it for the summer…I have a trip coming up to Mexico and I think it would be perfect for travel. It never occurred to me to make it with a skirt! I love the silhouette I think if completely flatters you and gives it a fresh, modern, look. I’m passing this on to my sisters who when I showed them the pattern said it was a cute “mom” look! No vision!!! Hahahaha
Great post!
-Su
Oooooh Su, I am cracking up at your sisters calling the pattern a “mom” look. That is so funny!!! I have passed patterns up for lack of vision, and then seen someone else make them look amazing. I fell in LOVE with this pattern though, just like you. I will definitely be making another one with a lightweight fabric for spring. Yes, yes, yes, this cardigan would be awesome for your trip. Enjoy your sewing and have a safe trip.
I know right? What does a “mom” look entail? You and I are both moms and I think we look fabulous and have a great sense of style! Style is timeless! They don’t know…but they gon’ learn today! Hahahhahaaha LOL Thanks so much, my trip is in end of August but I am definitely making several lightweight versions for the spring/summer season!
Thanks again for a great post!
OMGosh! I’m dying! You said, “…they gon’ learn today!” Bwahahahaaaa!!! Teach ’em girl! Teach ’em! That’s right, honey, we are very stylish moms. They’d better ask somebody! Goodnight! Have a nice weekend!
Mrs. Anita this post had me making a list for my lunch break. You going to have me sweating in GA trying to be cute. Great job and I love your blog. -BeBlessed
Zaun, hahahhaaaa! That’s right, girlfriend! Go ahead and be cute. Now you know you need some lightweight fabric in that Georgia heat though. LOL! Thanks so much for the compliment–makes me smile.
Classic, timeless, elegant…GREAT JOB!!!!!! love this look
Hey Ruqayyah! Thank you so much!
I absolutely love it, one of my favorites of all time.
Awwww, thanks Rosalind!
Oh how I love that cardigan, it is the business and as always you are styling those threads well. Yelp, I’m definitely adding that pattern to my list. Thanks for sharing Anita. 🙂
You’re welcome Sharon! Thank you so much!
Love the fabric and outfit. I love knits and will love to make the skirt in a different color but same fabric. The cardigan may be a little bit to risky for me to make, but I love the way it looks. lovee
Thanks Love! The cardigan really is an easy pattern. You should give it a try.
Wow…! I don’t think I would have bought that fabric on the bolt. It just didn’t speak to me, am I the only one who see/hear fabrics that scream your name?
But the outcome is an absolute masterpiece. That just goes to show that this art has to be deeper than the eye can see. Thanks for sharing, I’ve got to change my lenses.
Yes, Domonique, there are some fabrics that make my heart beat faster. Then there are those that I just take a chance on. I loved this sweater knit when I saw it because I saw a cardigan immediately. Yeah, I’m training my lenses too. My challenge is mixing prints. I’ve seen sew sisters create amazing combinations by mixing two or more prints.
I don’t usually make comments, I must say you look fierce!
Ooooh, Joy, thank you so much for commenting. You’ve made me smile.
So nice! I love a long cardigan. I would definitely make that. Beautiful! Your photographer is the bomb, too! Enjoy Vegas!!
Thanks Sheila! I can totally see you wearing this.
Absolutely Gorgeous! And I would make the exact same outfit with that fabric!
Awesome! Thanks Teresa!
