Spring Delight – Blue Floral Dress

Hello everyone!  We’re back from vacation and it was a AWESOME!  One full week of doing nothing but relaxing was so nice.  We enjoyed good company, good food, fun entertainment, exciting adventure, and lots of lounging by the pool.  I don’t do tanning, and I dislike tan lines on my body, but I came back home about 5 shades darker.  It happened on our last day there.  We were at the pool for hours and I thought I would be okay with the cloud covering and being in the water most of the time.  I usually stay under an umbrella or place a towel over me.  That’s how serious I am about avoiding tan lines.  Well, I didn’t do that this time, and I never re-applied my sunscreen, so when we got back to the room and I looked in the mirror, I screamed (literally).  Silly me!  This will NOT happen next time.  I’ve learned my lesson for sure.  I’m over here peeling like crazy.  Next vacation–Shade, shade, shade and loads of sunscreen.

I seriously over packed for the trip and I promised my husband that I would do better next time.  Also, I saw many gorgeous swim suit cover ups, so guess what I want to make now?  I just need to find the right fabric.  I think a trip to Michael Levine’s is in order.  What do you think?

Spring Delight – Blue Floral Dress

I made this gorgeous blue floral dress last year.  I wore it while on vacation, so I thought I would share it here.  It’s soooo comfortable and the fit is just perfect.  This was an easy pattern to sew, and I’m sure I’ll make another one in the future.  I’m sorry to say that the pattern seems to be out of print.  If you already have this pattern you should give it a try.   While we were shooting photos, one of the staff members stopped and posed for a picture with me.  He was so much fun!  The staff took really good care of us.

Create the Look

  • Pattern = New Look S0801 – Veiw A (Out of Print)

Oh no Ms. Anita…you are talking to an island-girl born and raised and I can’t get enough sun!!! I can’t get enough of it!! Thats probably because I live in Cleveland where the sun is shy…always hidin’ lol lol I have no problem with tan lines either! They’re a badge of honor!! HAHAHHAAA Yessss!! And my skin appears more even when I darken up a bit so yaaass bring on the rayzzzz!!!

Im sure there are plenty of alternatives to be found for this pattern but I’d like to suggest two: Simplicity 1612 in View D, Simplicity 2308 and Butterick 5353…I made both 1612 and 5353 before but I wasn’t completely satisfied with my fabric choices. I’d like to try them again using the ITY knit instead of the jersey knit I used before. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hahahahaaaa!!! You are so funny! “A badge of honor!” LOL! Thanks for the pattern alternatives. I’ll check those out too. You’ll love the ITY knit with this dress.

What us ITY knit? I get so confused with kinds of fabric.

        1. Anita Morris

Hey LaTanya! ITY stands for Interlock Twist Yarn. It is a method of putting a twist in yarn used for knit fabrics resulting in a more natural elasticity and a soft feel inside & out. It’s a thin knit.

Thanks Kimberly! I’m glad to have you join me.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress! I am also laughing out loud about your tan lines! One of my dearest friends in Nashville used to actually lay in the sun with me to enhance her natural color.

Thanks Marie! LOL! Girl, I don’t know how you ladies do that. I see people with beautiful, even tans all the time. Not me! I looked like a raccoon (in reverse). Light circles around the eyes and a dark face. Never again!
