1960’s Retro Delight

Hello everyone!  I’ve been quite busy filming videos for the Beginner’s Sewing Course, so I haven’t had much time to sew new pieces.  However, I do have another oldie but goodie to share with you today.  I made this 1960’s Retro Delight last year, and it’s most definitely one of my favorites of 2015.  I become increasingly grateful to God for this gift of sewing with the completion of each successful project.  Then to be blessed with this platform to share my gift with others is a bonus.  To those of you who are taking my Sewing Course, my prayer for you is that you will grab on to this treasured art that you are learning and share it with the next person.  It’s all about giving back what we have been given.  We are all blessed to be a blessing.

1960’S RETRO DELIGHT

This dress makes me happy!  My favorite fashion era is the 1950’s, but I like some of the 60’s styles also.  Do you want to know something that makes me smile.  I love to see young people rocking retro or vintage style clothing.  There’s something about that which communicates individual style.  It shows that they aren’t afraid to express themselves differently than their peers.  It demonstrates a sense of confidence, where they don’t feel the need to fit in by adorning themselves with the latest fads, celebrity picks, or name brands.  Fashion is fashion–here today, gone tomorrow.  Style is a state of mind.  I choose style over fashion.

    Hey Anita!!
I LOVE LOVE Vintage clothing! I find treasures in most eras but for some reason I seem to be stuck in the 70s , 80s, and 90s. I have a cute story to share. I used to chat it up with a really sweet lady at my last college in Texas. We used to talk about all kinds of things and one time it came up that I sewed (I think I was wearing one of my creations). Well she said that her mom loved to sew and she had passed and left all these patterns that she didn’t know what to do with and she asked if I’d like them. I said sure! Well I didn’t hear anything else about it and quite frankly I had forgotten we even had that conversation! Well the sweet lady retired and one day there was a message for me to visit the office she worked and she had left me a Banker’s Box full of vintage patterns! I was so surprised and delighted! She left me a note saying that she hoped that they brought me as much joy as they did her mom. I still have them to this day and I intend to sew as many of them as I can. Some of them will require I do alternations to the pattern (maybe you can incorporate some of that in your classes down the road since you sew vintage as well!) My grandmother has a trove of patterns as well and she’s started to gift them to me, so I’ve been getting my vintage fix there as well. Lovely dress Anita!!!
