Hello everyone,
Not long ago I made a vest for my husband for an article I submitted for the Sew Sew Def Magazine. Several people commented about wanting to make the vest so I put together a video tutorial for my beginners.

This tutorial assumes prior sewing experience. For those of you who have followed my tutorials in the Beginner’s Sewing Course, you should be able to follow along with this video and re-create the vest. If you’re brand new to sewing, you may need more guidance. While the video is detailed, there are terms and techniques used that may be foreign to you. There are also parts of the video where I tell you to perform steps without demonstrating them. I invite you to check out my Beginner’s Sewing Course, where I walk you, step-by-step, through learning the basics of sewing. We complete six garments in the process, and you learn at your own pace. Check out the FREE Course first, then come join me in this vest tutorial.
With Father’s Day right around the corner, eleven days, this fully lined vest would be a wonderful gift. Make it a set by making the neck and bow ties included with the pattern. I suggest allowing him to choose the fabric and buttons to ensure that it’s something he will like. If you’re wanting to surprise him, perhaps show him a few swatches, giving him options. Even if he knows what you’re doing, it would still be nice to package it nicely before giving it to him.
In the tutorial, I made a very casual vest for my husband to wear with jeans and shorts. Enjoy the video and have fun making vests for the special guys in your life.

Wow once again, nice job!!! I know you are sooooooo busy, I would love to be able to sew the tie and bow tie. Could you put together a tutorial for those. I would so appreciate that :0)
Hi Michelle! They’re both really easy to make. You may be able to follow the pattern instructions and create them. I will most likely do a tutorial for those too, just not sure if I will get it done in time for Father’s Day.
