While you’re here I just have to share my exciting news. I woke up on Monday morning to find out that I was named the “Best of April” WINNER in a month long Instagram challenge called Sew April 2017, hosted by Sewing and Design School. The idea was to post a picture related to the theme of the day. My post for Day 25, Sewing Inspiration, was chosen as BEST of April. I still can’t believe I won. Thanks to Sewing and Design School for a great month of shared talent. Here’s the caption I wrote for my post:
“I get sewing inspiration from pattern envelopes, fabric, and other women. When looking at patterns, I start thinking about the types of fabrics I can use to bring the look to life. When I see, and especially touch, fabrics, I form garments and style them with my favorite accessories in my mind. Finally, when I see women wearing beautiful garments, my first thought is, “I can make that!” This gorgeous dress was inspired by the Burda 6851 pattern envelope. Then I found this photo of the identical DKNY look after I completed my dress. Imagine my surprise! I can’t help but wonder which came first, Burda or DKNY?”
Here’s the photo I posted, and the pattern envelope which was my inspiration is below.
What About You?

Hi Anita!
I found you on YouTube and I love your tutorials!!! My late mom sewed everything for her 4 daughters when we were younger….Easter Eve she pulled an “all nighter” because she wanted us to look so pretty. She sewed with or without patterns. I have taken up this hobby and by your recommendation of machines I am returning the brother that I purchased for the one you suggested in your tutorial. I am going to start the purple skirt this weekend. Thanks for sharing! You are such a beautiful lady and I love how you changed your motto! May God continue to bless you to be a blessing to others!
Hi Alicia! Oooh, I’m so happy to have you join me. Thanks for sharing your fond memories of your mom sewing for your family. Welcome to the sewing community. Have fun sewing your skirt. Enjoy the process.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THE COLOR AND THE DRESS – of the Mother’s Day Inspiration!! I am falling in love withthe floor length dresses
Thanks so much Shawn!

Hi Anita. I stumbled upon your YouTube channel. I have been playing with the idea of taking a sewing class. I took textiles in high school hundreds of years ago ?. Watching your beginner course helped as a refresher. Now there is no excuse. Time for me to get busy and sew something. I love your style.
Hey Carmen! Thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, come on and join me! The sewing community is so amazing! You’re gonna love it! So many inspiring sew sisters, inspiration all over the place, and everyone is so generous in their sharing. Welcome sew sister!
Wow!! Hello “Best of April and May thru March. Congratulations! You know, God is awesome because He has truly blessed me to find your blog. First, you inspire me. Your dedication to fulfilling the Will of God is pure inspiration for me not just for sewing but also for chasing after God’s Will. But in speaking of sewing, I do not look at a garment the same way. I use to just see a pretty dress, skirt, or blouse but now I’m actually studying the material by touch-pulling it to see how much stretch it has and asking what type of material it is. I’m about trying to get educated on yes sewing but also on the material and how to adjust a pattern’s size. All because of your obedience to a great and awesome God. Oh, the dress is very beautiful. Thanks and God bless!!
Hi Peggy! Thanks so much for inspiring me with your words of encouragement. Yes, yes, yes! Learning about the fabrics and pattern adjustments are so crucial to our craft. I’m right there with you. God bless you too.
Hi Annita! You look really trendy. I love this color , it is so sweet! All your accessories are very nice. Have a good day
Thanks Carmen! You have a great day too!
Congrats on your win! Be blessed.
Thanks Queenester! You be blessed too!
Congratulations!!!
My inspiration to sew? You and a few other talented ladies. Honestly I had put the craft to rest. I picked it back up after seeing you on You tube. I also saw I could learn online. I was SOLD!! I’m also inspired to sew when I walk into a clothing store and see a blouse for $20+ and I’m like, that’s so easy to do, I can make that.
Awesome Michelle! Welcome back to sewing! Yeeeessss, when I see those clothes in the store I feel the same way. Not getting my $20! Hahaha!
CONGRATS on the win, but you know that you are winning each and everyday! You look Gorgeous in both dresses and such an Inspiration.
Awww, thanks Neti!
Oh gosh! I just love your stuff! So stylish and so well made. And the best part it all fits who you are. It’s super inspirational.
Thank you so much Anya!
Great post. I’m still working on my Mother’s Day look.
Thanks Krystal! I haven’t even started. Hahaha! I may be wearing this if I don’t get something made right away.
Good Morning Anita – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your dress and CONGRATULATIONS on the win! You always knock it out the park. I just used brocade for my dress last week, it was beautiful to work with, it’s the fraying that was a little tricky. Love the look on the husband. You are such an inspiration and I continue to look at your creations as inspiration to continue learning this craft so I can have nothing but me made in my closet.
Hey Nateida! Awesome! You are doing such an amazing job as a beginner. It makes me smile every time I see your creations. Keep it going sister!
OMG! Sew excited and happy for you as you Shine in your Designs!!!
But what inspires me is everything. I can be inspired by a piece of furniture or a car. Yes, I can see a clothing design in a couch or chair, depending on the fabric and style!
I so totally love what I do!
I tell my family that my goal is to completely overhaul my closets with nothing but my own designs! (Although this is difficult because there are so many talented designers and I love shopping for clothes! Lol)
But keep doing what you do and keep inspiring the sewing world Anita! You def ROCK! And tell hubby he does too! Lol
Teresa, you are so right! Inspiration comes from everywhere! Yeeeessss, you speak my language. My closet will be all my creations one day soon too. Keep working it sew sister!
Good morning,Anita,
Congratulations on being the “Best of April” Winner!
You look absolutely beautiful in your long dress and

My sewing inspiration is my mom… she made my
clothes all through high school.
Thank you for your wardrobe ideas Anita.

Have a blessed and joyful rest of the week!

Hey Raquel! Thank you so much! I love to hear about my sisters being inspired by their moms. I would LOVE it if my mom could sew. What a treasure to have her make all your clothes in high school. Wow! Yes, I will remember to put on that smile every moring.
Very nice look for Mother’s Day Anita. You wear hats very well. What a beautiful couple you and your husband make. I enjoy sewing for my husband too as he appreciates and loves what I make for him. Keep up the great work Anita. You are truly an inspiration!
