Hello, I’m a new subscriber to your blog. I am married, and have been married for 22 years (almost 23). I have two daughters, one is married (no grandchildren yet). I guess I have been fumbling with sewing for about 5 years. I have become more serious within the last couple of years, and am learning more now. I sew things for myself and others, but I spend a large amount of time mending. I like sewing because it’s so personal. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with the Lord and my family. Happy anniversary and thank you for the chance to win. I look forward to your blog emails. Have a great day!

  2. Sharon Jester

Hi, my name is Sharon Jester, I have a love of sewing, knitting and fashion just love to create, decorate and make things. Fashion has always been my passion from a little girl, but somehow I lost of my passion along the way of having children, marriage, divorce and raising children. I started knitting and someone ask me why don’t you sew, and I thought of the years I tried to sew and the garments were failures. I started reading other bloggers that sew and I got such inspiration to really wanting to learn. I have been sewing for 1 year now and still learning from all the sewlebrity such as yourself. My other passion that I love is motorcycle riding, I have a Harley and as a member of a group called the Queens of Harley we ride and do things for charity it’s a good outlet to let your hair down and just ride.

  3. Armena Brown

Hello Anita, I think this is wonderful way to share your 1 year anniversary, getting to know all of us and I’m excited to share. My name is Armena; I’m a wife to my handsome hubby and a mother of one beautiful daughter. Thank GOD no grands yet. I have been sewing since my pre-teen years, taught by my grandmother, who was a professional seamstress for over 40 years. I have been embracing my passion for sewing for over 20 years. My passion is for making modestly fitting skirts and dresses. I also have a sweet spot for vintage fashions. One of the best things about sewing is you can make every look your own, you can create something that might look similar to something in the store, however your fabric and detailing makes the garment uniquely “YOURS”! I love making skirts and dresses for others, it’s always interesting to see how creative I can be when assisting someone with the vision for their garment and then creating the look, the feeling of seeing others wear garments I made and they expressions of joy is priceless. I mean creating garment for a women with curves who can’t find that perfect idea in the stores, what blessing, I thank God for the creativity and skills to make garments for myself and others. Oh my Lord, my next passion after sewing is leading a healthy lifestyle, I am a fitness nut, I LOVE exercising and creating healthy versions or high calorie/ fat recipes. I regularly post silly, but good humored workout pics, mostly pics of my looking beat, but my workout is complete. Hope you enjoying getting to know me, I have truly enjoyed my “Anita by Design” fix over the past year, smiles!!!!!

  4. Tashiea

Hi Anita, I been married to my soldier for 13 years and have 5 kids. 22,20,16 and a set of 3 year old twin girls. I been sewing small projects for 2 years. I enjoy sewing dresses for my girls nothing big ,yet. Im self taught and still learning. I really enjoy it, but the one thing that made me enjoy sewing was while i was sewing and one of my girls asked “mommy, you sew me a dress?”. So now im in the middle of sewing her a dress:) and when i make them things they twirl around saying they’re princesses! They are my biggest fans. besides sewing i enjoy reading and photography. Thanks again for your encouragement, inspiration and motivation.

  5. Tangy

I am married with 3 kids (11, 9 and 1 yr old). I’started sewing 1.5 years ago and I love it ?. Its highly addictive! But for me it’s my way to relax. I see mostly for myself and my kiddos . I hope to one day see for others . Other than sewing I love all things crafty. I got skills with a hot glue gun ?

  6. Melissa

Hi Anita! I’ve been so blessed by your blog and you are are such a great inspiration to me. My name is Melissa and I’m 35 years old and single, still waiting on the Lord for a spouse. I’ve been sewing for over 5 years now and there has definitely been growth throughout the years. I sew mostly for myself but maybe one day I sew for more people. I love to sew, it’s therapy for me and keeps me out of trouble ?. I’m planning to start free sewing classes at my church soon. In addition to sewing, I like being involved in various ministries at church, machine embroidery and photography.

  7. Kammy

    Hello Anita:

I’m Kammy. I’m a single mother of 2 beautiful girls. I have been sewing most of my life but just got back into sewing about 3 years ago and I sew every chance I get. I sew mostly for myself and my 2 girls. There are enough projects there to keep me busy! Outside of sewing, I work full time in software. Thank you for your blog!

    1. kammy

I like sewing because I can make clothes that fit me! 80% of the clothes I wear are items I made myself. They just fit so much better!

  8. Elizabeth

Hi Anita! I am Elizabeth. I am a married mother of two from St. Croix, USVI. My girls are 4 and 2. I found your YouTube sewing class and blog late last year and became fascinated with sewing. I was particularly impressed with how you taught pattern reading. Around that time McCall’s had the patterns you were using on sale for $1.99, so I bought them. Then I received a sewing machine. I took a beginner’s sewing class at JoAnn Fabric the following week. I am so excited about learning to sew. So far I have made two skirts for my girls, pajama pants and am almost finished making some Madras dresses for them. Currently, I am only sewing for my household….mending hems, little things for my girls etc. As I get better, I would like to sew for others as well. I like seeing projects coming together and. Being able to transform fabric into something beautiful.other than sewing, my favorite thing to do is bake with my girls…And eat the things we bake ? I am looking forward to having more time for sewing more as the school year winds down. Happy Anniversary!

  9. Robin Seabrooks

    Blessings Ms. Anita,
My name is Robin Seabrooks and I am a married, mother of two. I live and work in New York. I haven’t been sewing very long and I just received my first sewing machine for Christmas. This was an absolute blessing because I have a nephew who is 15 and stands at 6’2″ already (and still growing) so I can eventually make things for him. I was so excited to learn that I took to YouTube right away looking for tutorials. That’s where I came across your videos which led me to your blog. I have learned so much terminology already from you, I feel like I can jump right in. I’ve been making a list of items I need and can’t wait to begin making my circle skirt! I’m also excited to make garments for my children as well. Thank you so much for the time your spending making these videos. I really enjoy them.

  10. Patricia Brown

Hi Anita, my name is Patricia. I love your sewing blog and your fashion style! I live in Texas however, I am a northerner from Michigan. I am happily married to my husband for 17 years. I love exercising, my favorite activity is spin cycling. I have traveled the world extensively as I am a former flight attendant. Of course I love to sew clothing. I learned how to sew in the 7th grade in home economics class and have been sewing ever since. My college years didn’t allow for much sewing however, I did whenever I had the opportunity. I love fabrics and sewing machines! Oh my goodness you should see my collection! I guess I am a selfish sewer, at least that’s what my friends tell me. I find that it is difficult for me to sew for others because most people don’t understand the labor and time that goes into custom making a garment. Occasionally I will sew for my Mom and my close family. I look forward to visiting with you on your blog in 2017. Thanks for the fabric drawing opportunity!

  11. Vanessa

Hi Anita!! I’m happily married. In May we’ll celebrate our 5 year anniversary. I really have only been sewing for about a year. When I was younger my mother tried to teach me but I didn’t have a desire to learn. One day I ran across Mimi G online and the rest was history. LOL. My favorite thing about sewing is creating one of a kind pieces that are unique to my style. I only sew for myself because I’m still a beginner. Other than sewing my favorite things are reading and spending time with my loved ones.

  12. Stephanie Corral

Hi Anita, My name is Stephanie and I am married with two furrbabies. I learned to sew two years ago but only recently became serious and began sewing garments from patterns, thanks to your courses. I love to immerse myself in the moment and focus on the pressing, cuts, measures and details. I have stressful job and this is my escape from that. I do feel I have a talent for paying attention to detail, but I’m still friends with my little seam ripper! I have sewn home decor projects, done some quilting, and garments for myself, so far. I’d love to sew motorcycle jackets for my two sisters and mom…someday! Other than sewing I love to cook, spend time with my husband and play the cello.

  13. Pauline Hazely

I know interior and dress making was my gift from I was twelve years old, when I started changing my mom furniture around, but I was not allowed to use my grandmother machine so I use my hands.so I started sewing when I came to the United State from Jamaica W.I in 1978. I thought my self to see, in 1984 I found out I have Lupus it affects both hips afternoon years of fighting I am home with a lot of time to see for grand kids I found your show and a lot of the question I have you have the answer on your show, thanks for sharing your gift with the world god bless you.

  15. Deborah Hill/Queendeb

Good Morning Anita.. Congrats again on your Anniversary Week.. Of course why only have it for a day, when you’ve worked so hard.. Below are the answers to entry questions.
I am recently married (May 2016), I have adult twin boys (24), and now we have our 4 month old Rottweiler – Princess.. Queendeb/me – KingLB/husband and Rotti-Princess. The royal castle.. lol
I’ve been sewing since the age of 12 (30 years).. I always wanted my mother to buy me Barbie clothes whenever we went to Woolworth, so she instead gave me her fabric scraps and taught me to make them myself. At first by hand then I got my first real machine at 15yrs old. I took Home Economics in middle school and continued sewing as an adult, then obtained my AA in Fashion Design.
I like that I can sew for myself, family & friends and that no one else will be wearing what I’ve made.
I used to sew for other quite a bit, however I do occasionally, and mostly sew for me and my husband. I think I’ve created something in him now as he thinks he’s a designer and we often wear matching outfits when we go out.. (King&Queen Designs) has been birthed in me/us.
Asides from sewing I enjoy traveling/cruising, reading and getting together with family/friends.

  16. Carolyn Crowder

    Hi Anita
I’m a single Mother of two grown kids and Gwama to a handsome 15yr old (tomorrow). I’ve been sewing for over forty years. I left my retail job to sew for others which lasted about 3 years. I’m back in the working world now sewing only for myself now. Sewing and shopping for fabric are my absolute favorite things when I’m not with my kids. When I’m not sewing, I’m usually online looking at fashion or getting ideas from magazines…totally addicted!

  17. Linda

Hi Anita, I began following you when I came across a picture of the coat you made that i was in the process of making (my first coat ever making). I am a mother of four adult children and twelve grandchildren. I have been sewing since I was a teenager. I went through several years of not sewing anything at all, I guess life happened. Then one day I was going through my closet and found a jacket that i no longer wore and decided to make a purse out of it (say what!!!!), yes a purse and my daughter told me she would buy it if she saw it in a store. I was very surprised. After that I begin to make purses, bags, bookbags and selling them sometimes. I love to sew, I can do it all day nonstop. I also love diy projects and will be launching my own blog soon. I think what you are doing is fabulous, only God can give you the passion to do what you love and share it in such a way. Thank you for that.

  18. Sharisse Brooks

    Happy New Year Anita!!!

I am very new to sewing, July 2015 to be exact. I was walking down the street & saw a cute little dress in a store window. I went inside to check out the price tag. IT WAS $379!!! I mean it literally had 2-3 seams… I said “I can make that”. So that’s when I signed up for a beginner sewing class, and purchased a Singer. Currently I sew a little bit for myself, but mainly for others, like hobo bags, ponchos for my nieces, zipper pouches for the nephews, snap wallets etc. I give them away as gifts.

But this year, I have vowed to start sewing clothes for myself. Nothing ever fits me RTW. That’s what I like about sewing, making “stuff” that truly fits me, created to my proportion.

Currently I am single, but I do have a new love interest; so hopefully in a few years if I enter this contest again, I will have a new “status” 🙂 . I have plenty of nieces & nephews who keep me busy. They are my world, and by far, I love hanging out with them. And my 8 year old goddaughter/niece has expressed interest in learning to sew. I just enrolled her in a kids sewing class that starts in March. I wish I had started sewing that young.

Thank you sew much for your tutorials and blog. You are extremely encouraging. Looking at your 2016 year in review, I realize Hey, I can do this!!

    Continued blessings! Sharisse

  19. Heidi

Hi Anita, I’m married with 3 children and 3 grandchildren. I have been sewing since I was a little girl. I started with making pillows and blankets for my dolls. My mom & grandma were both sewers. I love the feeling of accomplishment when I make something with my own hands. I sewed clothes for my daughters when they were young and some things for myself. I have also sewed quilts for my mom & aunts. Now I want to sew for my granddaughters. I love all kinds of crafting & cooking.

  20. Angela Alexander

Hi Anita, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I am married with 3 sons and one grandson. I haven’t really sewn in about 12 years. Getting back in the mode by learning from webbers such as yourself. I love the ability to fit and mix patterns to fit the person. Reading is a hobby I do besides sewing.

  22. Theresa Thompson

I’m married grandmother, 2 kids, 3 granddaughters. I started sewing as a child made my wedding dress and then stopped! No reason just stopped. Started looking and following different groups on Facebook and it sparked that flame again. I remember as a child how engrossed I was and still amazed how when sewing you’re in your own world and no one enters unless they can see and understand that you. I’ve only made things for me with hopes now to include my family members.. The only other thing that I love more then sewing is traveling, especially cruising. I love beautiful beaches and exotic places! Would love to win so I could make me a swimming suit and coverup for my next cruise adventure!

  23. Alethia

    I’m definitely entering!!
I am happily married, 27 years in.I have two young men, 24 and 17. I recently gained a daughter in love , and I have a grandbaby iin the way!!!!
I have been sewing for over 40 years. I began when I was 8 years old, like most, lol! I love the whole idea of being able to take a piece of fabric and turn it into anything I so desire it to be.
I’m the owner of a home based custome clothier and alterations business. I have sewn for others for over 30 years. I do sew for myself when I can steal the time and sneak something in. Other than sewing, I love spending time at home with family. I love periscoping…sharing my love for sewing, and I love to volunteer with the Lydia Project (www.thelydiaproject.org), still utilizing my sewing. What can I say, it’s in my blood.

Congratulations again, and keep up the phenomenal job with your blog and sewing classes!

  26. Lillian Burns

    H, Anita!
I love reading your blog! I am married, have five children and seven grandchildren. I learned sewing in middle school and later forgot about it. It wasn’t until I begin to watch a few Youtube videos last year, from you and a few other fabulous sewists that my interest in sewing once again was ignited. I consider myself a beginner because I’m learning things all over again. What I love about sewing is the opportunity to create my own clothing, and I love the freedom of sewing for myself. Other than sewing, I love reading my Bible and other inspirational books. I love to cross-stitch and crochet. Also, I love spending time with my family.

  27. Shannon Bibbs- Napier

Hi Mrs. Anita!! I’m a southern lady from Birmingham,Alabama so it’s a must I address you as if you were right here with me. I’m a 33 year old wife to a wonderful husband of 14 years. We have no children yet but we are praying for God to work a miracle for us . I actually took Sewing Classes in high school and loved it but i went of to college and many other things consumed my sewing time . I’d been talking about a sewing machine for a little over a year and my husband surprised me and bought me one for Christmas!! I’m super excited to get back in the swing of things i ran across your blog while reading a blog of MiMi G’s and I watched your videos and fell in love with your personality and how thorough you are . I said to myself “If anyone can teach you she can ” so i’m currently in the midst of Project #1 and im super excited. I want to start sewing for myself first then when my skills are up to par , make something nice for someone else. I don’t have a blog but i’m trying to become more confident in myself so that I won’t be shy about telling my story bc i’m sure it will help someone else. Thanks again for startling this awesome blog!! Happy 1 Year Blogiversary and may God bless you !!

  28. Elizabeth

I am married with three grown kids. I been sewing for over 20 years. I have taken many classes in sewing and have learned so much. I love your blog, because I am still learning. I sew for myself, because it relaxes me. It keeps my mind focus on something else besides my illness. I have been fighting stage 4 colon cancer for the past three years, but by God’s grace I still here. I love reading your blog and seeing the clothes you make. It gives me so much joy.

  29. Faneisha Alexander

Hi Anita! I’m Faneisha, but I go by Fo. I’m a newlywed of 9 months and no kids as of yet. I started seeing as a kid, but recently picked it back up at the beginning of this year. I enjoy doing DIY fashion and was also inspired by MimiG. Currently, I only sew for myself until I feel more comfortable with my skills.

Other than sewing, I enjoy doing makeup and blogging. I have two blogs– one for faith based inspiration (FoAlexander.com) and another to document my DIY projects (mission52DIY.com). I enjoy doing makeup tutorials on YouTube, but writing is ultimately my passion.

I hope to learn a lot more about sewing so that I can ultimately create my own unique wardrobe. Through sewing, I’m learning that patience is key.

  30. Kelly schmoker

Hi! My name is Kelly and I live with my hubby and our 4 year old. I started sewing almost 2 years ago to help me cope with the death of my mother. Late one night, I pulled the trigger on eBay and purchased a sewing machine. I mainly sew clothing for myself, I made my daughter some really cute things, but she refuses to wear them. I love your blog and glad you took the plunge a year ago!

  31. Shawn

Hi Anita. My name is Shawn of Zariah Sews. I am a divorced mother of 2, grandmother (Mimi) of 1
How long have you been sewing?I have been sewing consecutively for about 5 years to help ease the pain of divorce and stay out of trouble.
What do you like about sewing? I like the finish product of course, but also the challenge of creating something (garment) out of nothing (fabric). It gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Do you sew for yourself only, or for others too? I only sew for myself at the moment. It’s the only thing that I do for myself out of the many things I do for others.
Other than sewing, what is your favorite thing to do? I like to cook, surf the internet, write, travel, coupon, and spend time with my family.

  32. Beth Archibald

Hi! My name is Beth! I am married to a wonderful man. We have 6 children and 4 grandchildren. I have been sewing for almost 40 years. I sewed my first project at school at age 13, but didn’t actively start sewing until age 16 when my parents bought me my own sewing machine. I love to sew! I love the satisfaction of completing a project from scratch into something useful. I also love to make clothes that fit me! I do all types of sewing; crafts, garment, and quilting. For a few years, I had a sewing school in my home for children ages 8 and up. I loved teaching them the sewing basics and loved their enthusiasm! I sew clothing for myself and for my children and grandchildren, mostly for my daughter and granddaughters. I also make baby quilts to sell in my Etsy shop. My favorite thing to do when I am not sewing is spending time with my family! Thank you for the giveaway! I live your blog!

  33. Peggy

    Hi Anita!
I’m still excited like a child on Christmas Day, maybe it’s worse because I’m 52 lol, but anyway congratulations and happy anniversary! Although I haven’t been with you the entire year, I thank God for inspiring you to start blogging. Ecclesiastes 3:1–To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. I believe it was my time, at that time (this past Nov), to find your blog.
I am married with no biological children but under the direction of Jesus, my LORD, I became the Women of Warfare (WOW) children’s prayer coordinator at my church. We, the women, come together monthly to be a voice, in prayer, for all children. I thank God for this beautiful burden (which is not a burden) to pray for all children everywhere.
I received my sewing machine Sunday, yeaaaah!! Amazon-2 day shipping. Yeah I’m a little bit behind but I’m still starting with the first video. I am a sewing newbie. I took the home economics sewing class while in school and that was the extent of my sewing; although, the desire to sew stayed with me. My reason for wanting to learn to sew is to make my clothes, but I’m also praying for my mind and heart to remain open allowing God to do according to His Will in this and in everything I do because I want to be in His Will at all times.
My other favorite things to do outside of attending church are: running, gardening to include raising veggies and houseplants, cooking-trying to get into baking now, and reading.
Let me tell you, when I listen to you explain the reason you changed your motto to, “When you live in your DESIGN, it is from there that God SHINES!” I said now I know I’m with the right person because that lets me know you are allowing God to be in control and your desire is for Him to be glorified. As long as God is guiding the ship I know we’ll make it safely to land. The rain may fall and the waves may come but we will make it safely to land. God bless you Anita and thank you in Jesus Name.

  34. Ginger Wells

Hi my name is Ginger Wells, I am married to a man who loves the fact that I sew he’s always excited about my sewing projects. I have two beautiful grandsons and two dogs and I love them all to pieces. I’ve been sewing for about 12 years and I still have a lot to learn but its a process that I love. I like to sew because I like the feeling I get when I look at my finished project and the pride I feel knowing that I made it. I don’t sew for others only for myself but I’m always willing to help someone when they have a sewing issue. Sewing is a release for me its exciting for me to take a flat piece of fabric and see it transformed into a garment and I really love making my own clothes, I would tell you that I save a lot of money making my clothes but I don’t think I do because I love to buy fabric I’ve been dubbed the Fabric Fiend. Other than sewing I love spending time with my family and working in my church. By The way I love your blog you are awesome and you inspire me everyday, Thanks

  35. Brigitte

    Hi Anita,

I read today’s blog about how you got started, and my story is similar. I have always wanted to start sewing; I took home economics in jr. high school, but didn’t pursue sewing again until my daughter was about 3 years old(she is now 27). I worked with a lady who sewed but I only made one blouse and never took another class. In 2014, I came across Mimi G on Facebook and looked at what she was doing with her blog and my passion to learn how to sew was re-ignited again. The one thing that I was afraid of was threading the machine. I just remember it gave me all kinds of stress when I first learned to sew. I was determined to conquer this fear and accomplish my goal of at least sewing my own clothes. In September, my wonderful sister sent me a check as a gift, and I decided to purchase my first machine. It is a Singer and I watched YT video after video on how to thread a machine. I must say that I can do it in a few seconds now. FEAR CONQUERED! I am in a long-term committed relationship with a man whose mother was a great seamstress. He gives me tips that he remembers from when he would watch his mom sew. I still watch videos on You Tube; Mimi G, Threads, Craftsy, and of course that is where I came upon Anita by Design. I have come a long way with my sewing, I sew for myself, my sister, daughter, mother, niece, boyfriend, and I also have done clothing repairs for my co-workers. I don’t think that I will sew for anyone beyond what I am doing now although my daughter tries to encourage me to do so because her friends admire the things I make for her. I get joy out of knowing that I made something and it is wearable in public. LOL! Other than sewing, I am the family cook and crafter. I really love being able to give something to my family that is totally from my heart. Thank you for everything that you do. I have not gotten to the point where I am brave enough to share my projects online, but thank God for people like you and Mimi G, who are.

I am married with 1 child (boy) . I have been sewing for 2 years . I wanted to learn to sew because I think it is important to learn a trade and being creative is freeing to me . In my spare time I like learning new things . For instance , I make a list of things I think I should be improving on and read books and watch blogs that help with those things .

  37. Sheri Davis

    Good morning Ms. Anita,
I am married with two kinds I have been married for 26 years. 2017 hasn’t started out on a good note.
Please pray for my family. I have never witness any one with mental illness for the last 6 days it has been very hard watching my daughter change into someone I have never seen before please pray for my family. During this time I use my talent to keep me grounded sewing is something that makes me fill happy I started sewing when I was 5 years old I have been sewing for over 20 years I love the way you can make your creative ideas come life with just a couple of yards of fabric. I stopped sewing 22 years ago when I had my first child. I started back sewing last year I started making satin hair bonnets I started selling them and I was traveling attending different hair shows it was fun. I started to remember how much joy and happiness sewing made me feel. I only sew for myself but I do have a lot of people asking for garments. Anita you have helped me some much regarding your prayers and kind words thank you for creativeness you are an inspiration. Following you has given me a reason to sew more Thank you

Hello Anita and happy one year anniversary on your blog. It’s very nice that you have created this blog. Even though I’ve been sewing for years I still learn a lot looking at your blog. I’m signgle. I have three children and six grandchildren. I’ve been sewing about 45 years. I’ve always sewn because I’m short and would have to cut a lot off of the bottom of pants, skirts and dresses when brought from the stores. To me that’s throwing away money. Also I have large bust small in other areas. I like classic/conservative clothing which can be costly. I also don’t like having on what everyone else have on. I get to have exactly what I like and in the colors/prints that I like. I’m not home body and do not a lot of crafts to keep busy. Besides sewing I knit, crochet, make a little jewelry, make decor for the house. I have a website but there’s nothing on it at this time. Hopefully I will get some ready to wear things on it soon. I don’t want to take custom orders because I’ve done that years ago.

  39. Sulayne B.

Hi Anita!! Congrats! I am so happy for you success!
    Tell me about yourself:

Are you single, married, children, grandchildren?
I have been married to my handsome husband since 2008 and we have one sweet 4 yr. old boy!

How long have you been sewing?
I have been sewing since about 2008! I learned to sew in junior high school and then I took sewing again in high school. I didn’t see for a long time and then I returned to sewing when my husband bought my a sewing machine as a gift back in 2007-2008 and I’ve been sewing and creating ever since!

What do you like about sewing?
I enjoy the hands on nature of sewing. I like the thought that I had a part in the finished product. I also like the idea that I have some creative impact on the design or even the construction of the project. It gives me a sense of pride to know I’m wearing something that I made and that others find impressive! Also sewing feels like putting together a puzzle (granted you have to cut it out yourself which is my least favorite part) and I’m often delighted and surprised to see how the pieces go together.

Do you sew for yourself only, or for others too?
I mostly sew for myself but I also sew for my husband and son.

Other than sewing, what is your favorite thing to do?
I LOVE going to festivals and exploring Cleveland! There’s so much to see and do. I also enjoy poking around on Pinterest and keeping up with my sisters! We have the best conversations! Oh! I also enjoy looking up and trying new recipes!

    1. Brigitte

      Hi Sulayne,
I live in Cleveland too, well just outside of the city.

  40. Florence Brown

Good morning Ms. Anita. I am married to a wonderful man for 18 years and we’ve been blessed with a wonderful 17 y/o daughter who is graduating from high school in May?. It’s bittersweet but we’re trusting she won’t stray from the foundation that has been laid.
My best friend’s mom taught me to use a sewing machine when I was 12 but I didn’t start sewing until about 5 years ago. I enjoy the fact that I able to construct a garment that looks the way it’s supposed to. Proper fit, on the other hand, is something I need to work on, with tops in particular. I sew mostly skirts and shorts for myself and my mom when she visits. I am a voracious reader and I can spend just as much time, if not more perusing the shelves of the bookstore or library as I do fabric stores.
You have such a generous spirit and I thank you for being a blessing to those of us who read your blog. You’ve been encouraging in more ways than you know.

  41. Lashawnda

Good morning Anita, first let me say your blog and sewing is amazing! I am single. I have 4 kids, three grown and one almost there. I also have one grandbaby girl. She’s 4 going on 25. lol I have been sewing off/on for about 3 years. I absolutely love it. I everything about it. I am still learning and loving every minute of it. I haven’t mastered this craft just yet, so I only sew for myself at the moment. Other than sewing, I love to read. Thank you.

  42. Queenora

    Morning!
I am Queenora from Georgia. I’m a military spouse to my husband of 8 years. We have three girls who were one of the reasons I began sewing. With our previous duty stations, the selection of girl clothing was limited to the same stores and the same styles so I started sewing to give them the opportunity to explore their individuality within fashion. I have only been sewing for about 2 years. Sewing is my “me time” – where I am not a mom, I’m not a wife, I’m not the accountant – I am just me doing me. I sew for myself and my family. And outside of sewing I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.
I am always inspired by your blog posts and the attention to detail you put in all of your garments. Congrats on your one year anniversary and I know there will be many more anniversaries to come!

  43. Kelly

Hi Anita! Your blog gives me so much encouragement to try new sewing projects. I especially love all the photographs you post with your projects. You are a beautiful model! I live in Florida, been married for 26 years and have 3 children. Life is great! I first learned to sew about 20 years ago, but my kids were small and my schedule was too busy for me to do much with it. I picked sewing back up about a year ago and I love it! I started out making bags – lots and lots of bags. I’ve been working on garments lately. I’ll make bags for other people, but so far I’m only making garments for me. I’m working on getting the “fit” right on garment patterns. Knitting is my other hobby. I only get to sew on the weekends, but I knit almost every night. Thank you so much for your blog!!

  44. Tiffany Carrillo

I have 3 children with my loving husband of 12 years. We I’m a slow beginner. I’ve been in a beginner for a few years now. Lol! I’ve sewn for my kids and I only so far. I want to get comfortable following a sewing pattern on my own. Your tutorials are so detailed, and I really appreciate that. Anywho congratulations on your 1 year blogiversary!

  45. Art Steele

Congrats, Anita! I’m so happy you started your blog. I love seeing your twist on these patterns and you’ve inspired me to up my sewing game. I’m looking forward to this year!

  46. Melanie Owes

Congratulations on the 1year blogaversary! I’m Melanie, I’m single and I have been seeing for 6-8 months. I like seeing because it gives me a finished product, and I can say I made this. I only see for myself, and I enjoy reading and crocheting.

  47. Nina

And congratulations on your Anniversary blog.

  48. Nina

I love make clothes for my child’s and grandchildren and myself I love sewing because when I make my own clothes I feel real good when I make something on my own. And I’ve been saying I said about 15-20 years I don’t do it a lot because I crochet and knit to. And I have 4 children 3 girls and 1 boy all grown but don’t get me wrong I love to see.

  49. Joseline

Hi Anita. Congratulations on your blog anniversary. I’m Joseline from Zimbabwe. I am married and I have 3 lovely kids. I started sewing when I was 13 when I was going Fashion and Fabrics as a subject in High School, but I haven’t been sewing frequently because I didn’t have my own sewing machine. I finally bought my own sewing machine in October last year and I am now actively sewing, making my clothes only for now. But I am hoping to start a business and sew for others. I like sewing because, as an IT professional, I like to challenge myself by doing something different from IT during my spare time. I have made a few garments so far and I am loving it. other than sewing, I also enjoy baking and I love the results from my hobbies. I am hoping to learn more and I am always watching your videos. Thank you for this blog and sharing videos of your projects. I learn a lot from them

    Stay blessed.

  50. Mrs Nicola Davis

    Hi Anita,
Congratulations on your milestone, here’s to many more I hope.
How long have I been sewing? Well ever since I can remember I have been sewing in my own way and have recently begun to learn the let’s say “proffessional” way of sewing. That is how I found your blog. Your tutorials are so easy to follow and inspire me more than you know. I am married with two fantastic children and I found myself looking at off the rack clothing and homewears thinking I could make that! So I started giving it a go. I sew for anyone “any excuse for me” it calms my soul and the excitement I feel when I am getting to the end of a project is the best feeling ever. Other than sewing I like to spend time with my family and beloved dog enjoying nature’s wonder (usually in the rain in non sunny England) but anything craft related is my go to leisure activity.
Long may you find the insperations to keep your blog coming to us, I have found my muse!
    Have a wonderful day!

  51. Simone Cuomo

    Hello Anita,
Congratulations on your well-deserved accomplishment and wishing you more to come in the future. I follow your blogs as well as enjoy seeing your creations on Facebook. I have a Wonderful and supportive husband that I have been married to for 10 yrs now and we have 2 Beautiful boys (inside and out). I have been sewing for about 10 years now (had to learn for mending purposes for the hubby). Then my interest grew. In my mind, I was not a creative person but sewing brought out something in me that I didn’t even know I had. I love, love, love to sew for my family, myself and sometimes borrow my friend’s little girl to make girly things that I find cute. I now look at clothing in a completely different way. I often find myself looking at something and saying “I can do that”, I see past what is in front of me and look deeper into the construction. Over the past year, I also started doing some home decor things that I would never have attempted before. Sewing is My Serenity. When I sew, I feel Happy. I like being able to make the choices as to the fabric, color, and variations in style. OMG – I found my creativity. Besides sewing, I enjoy spending time with my boys. It doesn’t matter what we are doing as long as we are doing it together.Thank you for all of your inspiration in your sewing. I am always impressed and motivated when I see your posts. Many Blessing to you and yours!

  52. Taniel Crouch

Firstly – congratulations on this amazing milestone all the way from South Africa!! I look forward to seeing much more of you in future! I am in a relationship with my boyfriend of 6 years and only 1 furkid who I love like you probably would a child lol!!I have always been interested in sewing for a while but had enough saved up in 2014 to buy myself my own sewing machine and I have been teaching myself to sew ( with the help of your awesome youtube sewing tutorials of course!) ever since. so far I sew mainly for myself because I’m not yet that confident to sew for others. My favorite part about sewing is that I get to choose my own fabrics, my colors, my design and my favorite prints and the knowing that it WILL fit me once I’m done lol. My other favorite activities are DIY’s room/ house decor items and volunteering at my local animal shelter.

Simply loving your videos and newsletters – keeping up the motivation!

    Lots of Love xoxoxo

  53. Jomi Emerson

Hi Anita!!! I am so blessed by your blog. Congratulations on your one year and I am looking forward to what you do this year. I have been married for 25 years. I have two beautiful daughters, 22 and 13. I have been sewing since I was 7 years old. I told my mom I wanted to sew at 7 and she didn’t have time to teach me since they had a family pediatric practice. I read the directions and just did it. I think my first top was one of those princess line ones with the wings on the front, cuffs and a collar. Lol!! Yes 1970’s. I have sewed for myself ever since and later designed and made wedding dresses. I sew for myself, others, and my family. I had started designing children clothing and sold it in our local town. My favorite thing is to do is flat pattern design and drape. I homeschool my 13 year old as she was born with a half of her heart and I started teaching her to sew. Our favorite thing to do outside of sewing is being on a praise and worship flag team together. I am so grateful I found you as its my way of staying in touch with designers and being inspired since I live in a medical world. The Lord bless you.

  54. Debbie

I have been married for 31 years. I was taught how to sew in Home Economics. I mainly sewed clothes for my two beautiful children. Being a Mother has been my greatest accomplishment and I always liked to make my girls matching dresses for Christmas and Easter. I have truly been blessed. My daughters just got married, I plan on getting back into my sewing and learn how to properly fit patterns for myself and my changing body as I am getting older. I love your blog and always look forward to your email with a post on another fabulous outfit that you created. It gives me such inspiration. Thanks for helping us by sharing your knowledge and love of sewing.

  55. Patricia Shaw

Hi Anita, Congratulations on your year anniversary I wish you many more prosperous years.
My name is Patricia S., I’m married and I’ve been sewing on & off for about 20 years but still in the beginners stage learning to get a better fit. Sewing to me is relaxing and rewarding. I mostly sew for myself sometimes family. What else do I like to do SING!!!

  56. Mirline K

Greetings Anita! Congratulations on all your success this past year – I’m looking forward to seeing more of your creations and hopefully more YouTube tutorials since you have so much to teach. I’m so excited and feel so blessed! I’ve been sewing for about two years now and I only sew for myself since I still consider myself to be a beginner. I’ve got so much to learn! In addition to learning a new crochet pattern, or cooking new a dairy free dish, I really enjoy spending time with loved ones just laughing until I’m in complete tears.

    Thank God for your awesomeness!

  57. Melissa Woolsey

Congrats on your blogging anniversary! My name is Melissa Woolsey, married, with one biological daughter, age 13, and two wonderful adult stepdaughters, ages 18 and 23. I am new to sewing. I purchased a sewing machine several years ago but only recently started with the exception of attempting a few Halloween costumes for my daughter. So far, I only sew for myself because my daughter has also started sewing for herself! We have been learning together. I bought her a sewing machine for her 13th birthday in December. I am a nursing supervisor by trade and my favorite things to do are to spend time with my husband, daughter and our two dogs, Brewer and Margo.

  59. Stacey Hannigon

Hello Anita & congrats on your blog anniversary! I” a divorced mother of one son who celebrated his 14th birthday on the 10th. That means I’ll be rearing a high schooler next year..WOW!!! I’ve been sewing for about two years & starting by sewing lap scarves for myself. I transitioned to patterns for garments & this year I ventured out to doing the popular pleated & gathered skirts (without using a pattern). What I like most about sewing is learning how garments come together & seeing the finished product…produced by me ?. I’ve begun sewing for others within the past 6mths & have neglected sewing for my son & I ?. Outside of sewing, I enjoy volunteering in the church & my community & I serve on several boards including those focused on economic development, community revitalization, downtown development, cancer awareness, public health

  60. Darlene

    Hi Anita
I’m married. No children yet. I have been sewing since I was 8 years old. My mother was a professional tailor and seamstress. She worked in a high end men’s department store for many years and maintained a personal client list for weddings and alterations. So I’ve been around a sewing machine humming day and night my entire life.

I like to challenge myself by learning new sewing techniques. As I mentioned my mother was a professional seamstress and tailor. Her skills were amazing and she could make any garment from a picture. I strive for a similar clean sewing finish. You know when the inside looks as great as the outside. I work on that with each garment.

I sew clothing mostly for myself but will occasionally make something for my husband, family and friends for special occasions.

Other than sewing I love to garden.

Thank you for sharing you talent. I love your style.

  61. Julia E.

Hello, I have been married for 30 years, i have three children. I started sewing at 13 when my dad signed me up for a class and told me after he did it. I took a long break from it. I am happy I got back to it. Finally I have a dedicated sewing space. I sew mostly for myself.. I enjoy reading and hanging out with my family.

    Congratulations on your anniversary,.

  62. Irmgard

I rediscovered sewing after 30 years because of videos like yours. I told myself I can do this. I am sure you are inspiring many other viewers. Thank you very much

  63. Tonya Willingham

Congratulations on your one year anniversary. Looking forward to many more to come. I’m single with no children. I have only been sewing, or should I say attempting to see for the last year. I sew projects only for myself but hope to find a niche that I’m great at and offer it to others as well as charitable creation that is useful to a population. I enjoy seeing because it’s like putting a puzzle together from the pattern only instead of boxing up the puzzle once you’re through with it, you get to wear it! I like seeing things in the store or on someone and then figuring out how to recreate my version that flatters me. I have a long way to go before I feel as talented as some others but I’ll keep pushing along. My other hobbies are reading African American fiction, building, furnishing and decorating miniature doll houses but my most favorite thing to do is shopping!!!!

  64. Dorothy H.

    Hello Anita,
I am married with grandchildren and got back into sewing again after I “accidentally” discovered you on a Youtube video. I continued to watch and now I am hooked. Other than sewing I enjoy knitting, spinning wool and crocheting.

  65. Jackie Gordon

    I’m married and it’s been 50 yrs. I started sewing at age 10. I was a 4-H gal for 18 yrs. I’ve been quilting since 1990.
I’ve been interested lately in garment sewing again.

  66. Margo Penn-Taylor

I love to make my own clothes. Also sew for my daughter. Been sewing for slightly over a year abd enjoy every stitch.

  67. Kym Coupons

Hey Anita! Congrats on your Sewversary ;-)! My name is Kym. I’m single with no children but I do have siblings and god children at varying ages (1, 6, 8, and 21) and I’m 33-God’s blessing me with great practice! I am new to sewing (about 5 months) and initially started after hemming my own garments then the sew-bug hit me…I wanted to work on creating a signature style (I’m fond of vintage pieces). Sewing also is a way I feel more connected to my aunt and gramma who’ve passed and were amazing seamstresses and great at crocheting. Although I’ve gotten request to sew for others, I am keeping it for myself right now. I give so much of my time to helping others that I want to be a bit selfish with sewing for a while. Aside from working on garments, I love to volunteer with soup kitchens, homeless, youth and my church’s singles ministry and whatever else God leads me to do. That’s it for me! It’s great seeing your post and gaining confidence and more ideas. Congrats again and have another awesome year! You Rock Anita!

  68. Susie Baker

Hi Anita! Thank you so much for this giveaway and your video tutorials. I LOVE them! I have been married for 28 years to a wonderful man and we have 6 kids. I am a long time beginner/intermediate sewer. I have mostly sewn doll clothes for the American Girl doll. I have been intimidated to sew for myself because of fitting issues. This year I would like to tackle sewing for myself and my dream would be to sew vintage outfits for myself. I also would like to sew vintage outfits for the AGES dolls. I would love it if your future videos included where and when to use the server on garments. I live in the southern California area and would love to go to the fabric district sometime with you. 🙂 Thank you for blessing us with your tutorials and thank you to your hubby for helping you.

  69. Julia

Hi Anita, this is so cool!
    A. Single and loving it, engaged one time but didn’t work out.
    B. I sewed since junior high, like many that had it in school, but my mom sewed some of my clothes and her dresses, and she did her own alterations.
    C. I used to play with paper dolls, so picking out patterns is an extension of that, I guess, and then making something life-size from that is even more fun!
    D. I recently have been sewing clothes, but I like to make quilts for others who have cancer or are in need. I also belong to two quilt guilds and we make quilts for community needs.
    E. I like to play piano and other instruments and sing in a group.

  70. Deirdre Jenkins

Hello Anita my name is Deirdre and I am a single women with no children who has been sewing for just about 3 months. I actually brought my sewing machine 2.5 years ago but the timing was not right. All other YouTube sewing teachers left me confused. After your sewing tutorials I now sew with confidence and proud to wear what I have made. I am now in the procss of rebuilding my waredrobe thanks to you.

I sew for myself and my niece. I love making clothing. Finding clothing for myself has been very hard. Now all I need is the right material.

Currently sewing is my only hobby and I’m loving every minute of it. Thanks again Anita!

  71. Sandra Cunningham

Hello Anita. Love your blog. Congrats on your anniversary. I blog on SdcunniDesigns.blogspot.com I am a divorced mother of three grown children and four grandchildren. I have been sewing over 40 years, it is what I love to do. I developed a love for sewing at age 9 watching my mom, who was phenomenal. Since leaving corporate America in 2014, I sew for myself and others as a business. I love the creative process of it all and would rather spend hours in the fabric store rather than the mall. My number one goal is to make everything I wear. I am 80% there, woohoo.

  72. Angela Hill

Hey Me. Anita congrats to you on your 1 year anniversary, I’m a single mother of 3 grown boys and a 15 yr. old daughter, I have 7 grandchildren. I started out sewing about a year ago learning how to quilt I knew nothing about garment sewing until I came across MimiG on YouTube and I watched her tutorials, and I wanted to sew I then came across your “Learn to Sew” on YouTube and I was like you can do this and I have been following you faithfully, I will be sewing for myself I like the fact that I can make my own garments instead of buying I like the idea of looking fashionable and filling good in my garments that I make, to me sewing is soothing and therapeutic. Other then sewing I like to do “Project Life” which is a daily journal with pictures and journaling throughout the year of you and your family activities or events. I’m so glad that I have found you because you have been my inspiration on this sewing journey and I want to tell you Thank You, for being my inspiration.

  73. Michelle

Hi and congratulations. I love sewing. I watched my mother, she was skilled in her craft. But as I got older my focus went to other hobbies and crafts. Dance instructor, crochet, cake baking and decorating. But my top focus was learning sign language to help others care for their spiritual needs in their language. A friend sent me a link to your blog and I immediately subscribed. I sew for myself, but, just recently sewed a few gifts for co-workers who showed kindness when I broke my foot last year. They were appreciated. I also want to thank you for also inspiring me. I’ve purchased supplies for a few of your tutorials. My goal first to cut out the slouchy hat. Loved it:-)

  74. Crystal L. Cochren

Hello Anita. Happy Anniversary!!! I’m excited about this giveaway.

I have been married for 6 1/2 years. My husband surprised me with the sewing machine for our 6th anniversary in August 2016. I had never used a sewing machine before that time.

I have been creating since I was a young girl. I create for myself, friends, family and my business, Interwoven Creations by Crystal.

I learned to crochet when I was 7 or 8 years old. I continue to enjoy crocheting. Sewing gives me faster gratification than crocheting, though. I guess I’m getting impatient in my old age. ?

Congrats again on your anniversary. Be blessed.

  75. Alencia

Hi Anita!!! Happy First Anniversary!!! I love your tutorials! They have helped me a lot. I have been married for 26 years with no grandchildren but I do have for adult children. I have been sewing for about 7 months now and I love how it’s getting me out of my own head and making me focus on the project at hand and it’s relaxing. I sew mostly for myself but also for my husband, although I still have a lot to learn and I need to build my confidence. ? Besides sewing I love to read and roller skate.

  76. Michelle Painter

    Happy 1 Year Anniversary Anita!!!

I’m married to a wonderful man and have 5 grown children and 5 perfect grandchildren. I’ve sewn in the past, but only a little. After having 3 older brothers and then 3 boys of my own, when I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter Hannah, I immediately had a desire to sew her little ruffled bloomers and pink dresses. I wasn’t very good at it and there was no YouTube or Blog to watch and learn from, and somewhere along the line I got discouraged and stopped sewing completely. Fast forward 24 years—–About 4 months ago I decided I wanted to learn something new, and while randomly surfing Youtube I found your channel decided learning to sew would be my new endeavor. And now I’m hooked!

What I like about sewing is the amazing feeling of “I made that!”. Being able to make things for my grandkids, like pillowcases and pajama bottoms and fleece hats for Christmas felt pretty fantastic. I’ve made two of your projects for myself (the circle skirt and maxi skirt) and I’m in the middle of making the straight skirt, and can’t wait to try the other tutorials. I’m also working on my first quilt for my granddaughter’s 11th birthday. So I guess I also like the versatility of all the things I can learn to make. I’ve seriously made so many things in just these few short months including totes, cinch bags, clothes, blankets, and more, both for myself and for others. Oh, and I’m addicted to fabric and cannot get enough of it!

The other thing I enjoy is cooking nutritious and delicious meals. If I’m not at my sewing station, I’m in my kitchen.

I’m so happy I found your YouTube channel and blog. The tutorials have made me much more confident seamstress.

  77. Tiffany a

    Hey there Ms. Anita,

My name is Krista. I follow you on Instagram and Pinterest and have commented on a few of your posts. I get so excited when I see you posted something new. I am a single mom of 4 and a grandma to 2 beautiful boys. I’ve always wanted to learn to sew but never had enough time and/or patience. I have many unfinished projects that would really like some attention. I just purchased a brother sewing machine and serger in order to gain some motivation. I would love to make clothes for myself as for other people I not that confident just yet. I actually came across your blog when I was watching a mimig video. Now that I am not working any more, I hope to sew more and become more confident. Thanks for making your videos informative and exciting.

Oops- forgot this part other than sewing, I am a baker so I’m always in the kitchen or in the library

Hi Anita, WHAT????!!! Only 1 year!!! You fooled me, hahaha. Because I could’ve sworn that you’ve been in it much longer!

    Here goes…
Single mother of 5 (2 are grown Yipppeeee!!!) 4 grand chillen. I started sewing (that’s what I called it) at a very young age with my mom trying to get me out of her way and making a pillowcase. Many moons later in my 20’s I tried again, but was REALLY discouraged by a now X-spouse. I picked it up again about 1 1/2 years ago by being determined to teach myself. Through many (I mean MANY) mistakes, I’m at the point where I can construct something to wear and hide the imperfections with a cardigan or safety pin (like these slacks I have on today that keep sliding down my backside but thank goodness for a hi/lo top). For the most part, I sew for me and the kiddos. It helps me to de-stress and brings a sense of accomplishment (which don’t come easily). I have learned to encourage myself through it and life’s trials by realizing that much of my happiness comes through sharing the knowledge and blessings of sewing. What else do I enjoy-what else is there to do??? Uhhh, nothing. (JK) I love to sing-it brings peace in a storm, makes me happy when I feel lonely or scared, and most of all when I sound bad, only GOD knows that it’s beautiful music to His ears.

  82. Aneser Woulard

    Hello Anita,
My name is Aneser (A-knee-sir), I am a married mother of three wonderful children ages 17,13 and 8. I have been sewing for all of 3 weeks. I purchased a sewing machine for myself on my birthday back in December with the hopes of putting a desire into action. I’ve always wanted to learn to sew but was always afraid of trying. After overcoming many odds and really understanding that with God All things are possible,I’ve taken on sewing. I like sewing because Sewing actually gives me a since of something being my own. After many years of striving to do and accomplish things for my family, sewing is my own. It’s not to please anyone else it’s solely for me. At this point I only sew for myself and have completed your circle skirt tutorial as well as a couple of pillow cases. My new motto is, “she thought she could so she did- with God all things are possible.” Other then sewing I love diy projects. My husband calls me baby Martha now, referring to Martha Stewart. I am so blessed to have come across your you tube channel and then your blog, you are definetly inspiring and easy to follow.

Congratulation, Anita! I have been blessed by you and your blog. I never was a great seamstress and didn’t sew for many, many years. My dear mother, who was a designer and phenomenal seamstress, tried many times to teach me to sew but I always gave up. Now, at the age of 70 and being widowed for 19 years, I decided to learn to sew. I viewed many videos but they assumed the viewers had prior knowledge so I was lost UNTIL I happened upon your beginning sewing classes. You are a teacher extraodinaire as you assume nothing and teach us the very, very basics. Those of us who know a bit more can always skip over those parts. Your attention to detail reminds me of my mother as she was a stickler for perfection. I’m sewing t-shirt dresses for Haiti. I also enjoy knitting and making my own cards. I am a retired teacher but work as a substitute…a job I love. I’m also active in my church and public library. One year is only the beginning of many years of blogging and great sewing instruction for your faithful and grateful viewers. By the way, I’m the one whose son is still waiting for his robe that you made for you son. He asked about it the other day. Tee Hee! Thanks and God bless you for all you do. Happy Anniversary.

A bit congratulations on your one year blogging anniversary Anita! Please enter me in your contest. My answers to your questions are as follows:
    a) I’m single. I have one child and four grandchildren.
    b) I’ve been sewing 10 years since starting again in 2006.
    c) The thing I like most about sewing is that it acts as my creative release.
    d) I sew mainly for myself and occasionally for family members and friends.
    e) Other than sewing I enjoy blogging (mostly about sewing) and writing.

  85. Corkpop

Congratulations! Let’s see….I am single and share a house with my sister. I’ve been sewing for 51 years and sew for us and I make ooak items to sell. It’s necessary for me to sew, I’m 6’2″ tall so I’ve had to make almost all my clothes my whole life. I do love the creativity of design however and have designed several of my own patterns. My other favorite thing is antique/collectible hunting that I sell. I’m not going to be able to keep up with that much longer though due to a disability.

  86. Seronda Wayne

Greetings! My name is Seronda Wayne (Sheseams)
    A) single
    B) I get been sewing for 10 years
    C) I enjoy the control sewing gives me, If I want an orange a-line dress, I can turn one out in a couple of days, although green is the “in” color that season.
    D) I also sew for my niece, anything that I make her she puts in a protective garment bag in a special place in her closet.
    E) I love to read and post my blog.

  87. Vanda Kelly

Hi Anita! My name is Vanda Kelly and I’m married with four (2 girls and 2 boys). I started sewing four years ago when I began feeling like I needed to have something of my own to do. Something besides being Momma and Wifey. So I took a four day beginning sewing class I haven’t stopped yet. I like the challenge of choosing a new project to create and the fulfillment of having actually completed it. (And that it looks good.) I’ve mostly sewed for others but one of my resolutions for the new year was to start sewing for myself. Other than sewing, I enjoy crocheting (or browsing Pinterest). Congrats on your anniversary. I’ve enjoyed your blog.

  88. Nikiah

Hi Anita!! Congrats on the 1 year anniversary. That is a wonderful accomplishment. I stumbled across your videos and blog search google for something. I’m so glad I did. I am married live in WA state and have a son that is a freshman in college and I also have a son that is a Senior in high school. Yes, I am about to enter into the emptynest stage shortly. I was exposed to sewing when I was younger. My mom and dad would make money sewing bedspreads, curtains, pillow shams, pillows, sundresses, and Mc Hammer pants (LOL that’s a throwback for ya). I always have had a sewing machine. I am recently learning correct needles, properly reading a pattern, fabrics types, and a lot of basic things I didn’t know. What I love most about sewing is, it’s like a puzzle that I am trying to put together. I love puzzles and it’s comforting to me. I only sew for my immediate family and once in a blue moon for close friends. I tried sewing for others and I had began to hate sewing because it was like a leech sucking the joy out of something that was once fun. I put my foot down and said no more and the joy of sewing came back and I wanted to touch my machine again. Other than sewing football is my thing. I think because the past 7 or 8 years, it has been nothing but football with my boys. This year I get to watch my son play in college for the first time. I am super excited. I want to say thank you for doing this giveaway. I have yet to order fabric from Michael Levine. I think next time I visit my brother in San Diego, I might make a trip to LA to the loft. I keep hearing good things about it, but you have to look through the fabric.

  89. Donna G.

Hi Anita, and congratulations on your one year anniversary! Yours is one of the few blogs I follow; I love your fashion sense and “inner sense”! I’m a mother of two, and grandmother of three boys (one is only 5 days old), and have been sewing for at least 50 years. I sew for myself and others, and enjoy “fabric therapy” when needed. I live in a small rural town, so our fashions are very casual, but I sure enjoy reading tips and techniques that I can incorporate into my sewing. My family and I are very outdoors oriented, and we spend as much time there as possible with hiking, camping and riding our ATV. In addition I’m an avid swimmer, gardener, quilter and sometimes crocheter. Thank you for this generous giveaway!

  90. Dilshad Bhamani

Hello Anita, my name is Dilshad Bhamani; mother of an adult son. Am divorced. Was a tomboy as a child, adolesent, and also as an adult. Always interested in sports, and math. Learned to cook, knit, crochet, bake after marriage. Could say I am now good in these areas. After retiring; have formed an interest in sewing. Have tried your Beginners Sewing Tutorials. Enjoyed them thoroughly. The tutorials really inspired me more, and more as I watched them one after the other. Have made few skirts for myself from those tutorials but still have to perfect them. Will keep on practicing. Would like to make some outfits for my nieces and grandchildren. But, only after I perfect the art. I loved your dresses that you had made recently. Awaiting anxiously for tutorials on them. Your tutorials seem so easy to make – it’s all the hard work you have put in making those videos. I am so grateful to have stumbled on your website. One day, I also want to sew like a PRO – like you- am enjoying this art so much and I only wish I had started it earlier. But, it’s never too late to learn anything. God will help when you try. I pray God keeps you well and keeps you under His graces for the work you are doing – helping His children learn an art. Keep it up Anita.

  91. Andrea

Hi Anita, Happy Anniversary! I’m married with no children. Was exposed to sewing as a youngster as my mom & aunt made most of my female cousins and my clothing, we were assigned the task of doing the handwork (mostly hemming) on their projects. I sewed through my teens, 20’s & 30’s, took a long break and now I’m back at it again. Sewing provides me with much needed relaxation and allows me self-expression, being 5’11” in height and on the plus side, I can customize my clothes for better fit. I don’t sew for others. Other than sewing, my favorite pastimes include reading, traveling and anything craft-related.

  92. Rimma

Hi Anita! Congratulations on the 1 year anniversary! I’m so happy I found your blog! And thank you for the giveaway! 🙂
I’m married to a wonderful man and I have two stepdaughters (they’re 8 and 12; I call them gift-daughters?). I learned to sew about three years ago but have been sewing mostly in the past six months. I absolutely adore it! It’s my therapy, my relaxation time, my creative channel, my passion and obsession 🙂 We just got a beautiful pink sewing machine for our 8 year old and I’m excited to teach her what I learned in the years to come! For now I sew mostly for myself, although I have made a skirt and a dress for our little one. Apart from sewing, I love spending great family time, reading, knitting and crochet when there’s time 🙂

Have a wonderful week and wishing you many happy years of sewing and blogging! ☀️

  93. Antoinette

Hello:) Iam a single mother of 3 daughters. I have been sewing for almost 1 year. The think that I love about sewing is that it gives me the freedom to be as creative as I like!! In the moment I only sew for my daughters because I’m still working on getting my skill up to par. My next favorite thing to do is dance.

  94. Lora Martin

    How fun!
I am married, with one daughter who has three kidlings. Two boys and a girl – all over 10. I have been sewing since I was 7, so a very long time. Unfortunately, my grands live far from me, so I haven’t gotten them addicted yet. I enjoy sewing because it is creative and relaxing. I primarily make art quilts and am getting back into garments for myself now. I’ve been sewing loud Hawaiian-style shirts for my husband for years.

Beyond sewing, what I like best is reading, watching movies, and hanging out with friends.

  95. Theresa Chesterfield

I’m a married mother of 3. I bought my first sewing machine from Woolworth more than 20 years ago. I taught myself from books and then life happened. By the time YouTube and blogs were in full effect I was able to get back at it! I sew for myself and my kids and will not see for hire. I do a few favors every now and then. Other than sewing, I like to read.

  96. Rebecca G

Single ” mature” woman. Received my first sewing machine at age 10 an aqua “Kenmore”. My memre sewed & quilted so I learned by watching her. I sewed for myself for a few yrs then got into quilting for a number of years. Then designing & sewing for a little girl progressing to sewing for her AG 18″ doll for a few yrs. I’ve recently gotten back to sewing for myself with a semi fitted unlined jacket after 2 misses on peasant style blouses. The tops were not a style for my fuller figure, but the jacket was a hit & gave me the courage to begin a fitted Lined jacket as my next project. I’d like to try using knit fabric as there are a couple cof crossover tops I’d like to try.
Other than garment sewing I enjoy hand embroidery utilizing my projects in pillows, quilts & table toppers & runners.
I really enjoy reading your blog & have gleaned a lot of useful information from your posts.

Dear Anita, I found you quite by mistake. I was on YouTube and came across your videos. Anita, you are amazing. Your style, your grace. I aspire to be “YOU.” Anita, I am married to an phenomenal man. He is loyal and devoted and we are a great team. We do not have children – by choice. I have been sewing (well, if you want to call it that) for about three years. I ventured out and made aprons for my girlfriends for Christmas. I also made a pillow for my husband for Christmas. I know you have seen the fabric in JoAnn’s fabric. It is of the “trout” and it is already cut. It is in the drapery aisle. Anita, they were nothing to write home about but I felt proud of my accomplishment. We are a military family so I sometimes sew my husband’s uniforms – not rank or anything that can be inspected. I find sewing relaxing. I really want to be decent and make some great skirts. In closing, you are awesome. I have taken three semesters of sewing at the community college and I learned more in watching your YouTube videos than I did the whole time at school.

  98. Trenetta

Hi. I am married with 2 teenagers. I’ve been sewing off and on for 4 or 5 years. I see mostly for my daughter (skirts and dresses and cosplay costumes). I don’t get to sew much and I really hate cutting out patterns. But being able to make what you need, after you’ve walked the malls and scoured the Internet to no avail, is the best feeling. Other than sewing, I really like gardening and collecting vintage patterns. I love your blog and tutorials. Happy anniversary!

  99. Rashida R Jones

I am single with no children.
I’ve been sewing less than a year.
Sewing is what I call my invisible cigarette. It takes me out of the norms of every day life and gives me that inner peace.
I sew for myself. Not confident enough to sew for others and even when I do, I will be very selective in doing so.
Other than sewing, I enjoy reading, exercising and cross-stitching.

I look forward to learning more with you. You are definitely an inspiration.

    1. combatboots

      Rashida,

I love the analogy! It is an “invisible cigarette.” Anita is an inspiration! I am so blessed I found her.

  100. Marie

Hello! I’m married with two children. I don’t sew as much as I’d like. I learned to sew about 12 years ago. Besides sewing, I am a fashion illustrator and love to draw. Thanks for all the inspiring content!
