COZY ROBE | MCCALL'S 8245
Since our last Sew Along was a loungewear set, I thought it would be fitting for us to make a robe next. But we’re sewing a robe with fitted sleeves. One thing I don’t like is wearing my robe with oversized sleeves while doing things around the house, like making breakfast, rinsing dishes, or washing my hands. The sleeves just get in the way. So, when I ran across an advertisement with a woman wearing a robe with fitted sleeves, I knew I had to have one. And I’m excited to share this beauty with you. Let’s get into the details.
Pattern Information
After seeing the advertisement for the fitted robe, I quickly went to my Patterns Pinterest Board to see if I had something I could use to duplicate what the model was wearing. When I saw MCCALL’S 8245, I literally squealed. It is the perfect design for the robe I wanted to make.
This pattern is rated EASY by the company, which means beginner-friendly, and I agree. If you have basic sewing skills and a bit of experience, you should be able to follow along and complete the project. If you’ve gone through my Beginner’s Sewing Course and have been sewing/practicing, you’re ready for this pattern. I will be sharing a few tips along the way to help you achieve success. Take your time and enjoy putting your current skills to work while learning more. And I’ve created a Sew Along to help walk you through the process.
McCall’s 8245 comes with a pull-on romper and jumpsuit, with V-neck and wide legs. The robe has front bands, long sleeves and a sash closure. I think this is a great loungewear set pattern. I plan to make the loungewear jumpsuit later. Here are some closeups of the robe.
Fabric Information
The fabric recommendation is for 35% Moderate stretch Knits, like Rib Knit, Cotton Knit, French Terry, and Lightweight Sweater Knits. I used a beautiful FRENCH TERRY that I purchased from my local JoAnn Fabrics.
Inside the Garment
I used my Baby Lock Chorus sewing machine and Baby Lock Vibrant Serger to sew the robe. Here are closeup photos on the inside of the garment.
Notions Information
The only notion required is 1/4″ elastic for the romper and jumpsuit. You only need thread for the robe.
Alterations Information
I lengthened the robe by six inches and added thread chain belt loops to hold the belt to the robe. I explain how I did both in the Sew Along.
Styling Options
The only styling I need for my robe is a comfortable pair of slippers. I finished the robe just in time to cuddle up on my sofa on New Year’s Eve. It’s so cozy and soft.
