Hello everyone! It’s June 1st and that can only mean one thing–GRADUATION season! Oh the excitement in the air is so great! My son graduates tomorrow, along with a whole gang of other kids our family has come to love. I made a beautiful dress to wear to his graduation but I’m afraid I may not be wearing it because all of a sudden we’re reaching triple digits in the weather. The forecast says 100 degrees tomorrow, and the ceremony is outdoors at 2:30 in the afternoon. If I wear the dress I made, I may be dripping wet with sweat before the end of the ceremony. So, I may have to pull something cooler from the closet. One thing is for sure–a BIG, floppy hat is in order (which was already in the plans anyway). What will I wear now? Oh, the wardrobe trials of a sewing mama!
2-Piece Mix & Match
Well, this cute little 2-Piece number is not the outfit I made for the graduation, however, I may consider wearing it. I want to wear something that will cover my entire body because I hate tan lines (and I’m sure to catch a tan in that sun tomorrow). This is a very light weight fabric, but I don’t think it will matter in 100 degree heat. I’ll still be hot. Shucks, if I wear a swimsuit, I’ll still be hot. Haha! This 2-Piece set was created using two different patterns (details below). I really like the options that come with creating the two pieces using the same fabric. They look fabulous together, but the many styling possibilities as separates are exciting too. The top would look amazing worn with a pencil skirt, and the skirt would look hot with an off-the-shoulder top. All around, I think this is a winner.

Hi Anita! I just saw this post and realized I had been following you BEFORE we met at the conference!
I recently purchased that maxi skirt pattern ( I love the elegant shape) and was searching for reviews for it.
Yours is beautiful! Would you recommend this pattern and what type of fabric do you feel would work best?
I noticed View F was shorter in the front as depicted in the line art….. Did you lengthen the front on yours?
Does it run true to size? Any feedback you could provide would be appreciated! Luv your style and so happy we met!
?
Hi there, Karen! Thank you so much! I would highly recommend this pattern because it’s so easy to sew. I did not make any changes to the pattern. The length difference between front and back is very small, not like your typical hi-low cut. You can’t really see it in the photos, but the back actually drags the ground a bit. Yes, I found it to be true to size.
This is a very nice outfit. You wear it well. If the temp. got to 100 the blue dress in Project 5 would have been a good choice; but you might not have made it yet. I like the way you kept the length and slit at a tasteful level. I’m enjoying your video lessons and look forward to the next one.
Hi Nancy! Thank you so much for your feedback. Yeah, I didn’t have the blue dress yet on that hot day. Have a good evening!
Anita, you are such a classy lady. I am so glad that I found your blog and website. Love your teachings and the fact that you take your time when explaining all of the techniques of sewing.
God has blessed you with this gift and thank you for sharing it with us. I am still working on my circle skirt, but have already watched the video for the 2nd project. Can’t wait to finish my skirt and start on the next project.
Congratulations on your son’s graduation.
Ooooh, Sherry! Thank you so much for your words of encouragement! I am smiling from my heart!
You are so welcome, and I’m very pleased to hear you are taking your time on the circle skirt. No rush — the videos will be here for you indefinitely.
Thank you! My son’s graduation day was so amazing!
Cute! I like the option of wearing the white top with it. Perhaps you can wear a sleeveless white top to graduation with the skirt since it’s going to be hot anyways and the fabric is a thin and breathable? However, I can’t wait to see what you decide to wear!
Thanks MinaLolita! I thought about the short sleeve option too. My issue is tan lines. If I wear short sleeves I’ll get that ugly tan line that I don’t like. LOL! I’m still pondering what to do. I’ll let you know next week though.
You’ve done it again!!! I love the print, as well as, the many options the two pieces allow. You look stunning as always and I keep meaning to tell you “Great Job!” on putting out a really nice blog. There are several blogs I follow and I love them all for what they offer however, your blog has something special about it that makes me feel like I just dropped in to visit my sister and I’m going through her closet all while having small chat.
Now see! This is what I’m striving for! Thank you so much for your feedback. I’m smiling my head off over here. Talk to you later sis!
Simply gorgeous, Anita! I love, love, love the fabric, and the design. As always you are wearing it well!
I have to admit I’m still working on my circle skirt, too, mainly because all of a sudden my machine is in the middle of a construction zone in the space where I had placed it. I need to carve out some space to work or I’ll never be able to get started!
Thanks Sheila!
Awww shoot! Well, get back to it when you can. Just promise me you’ll finish it.
This is so beautiful…just like you.
Hope you stay cool tomorrow.
Thanks Patty! I’m sure gonna try! Got me a mini water bottle spray fan today. LOL!
OMG, lady u are slaying! I love this combo, and a full bust girl like me adores Simplicity 8089!! Maybe I need to cut this pattern out this weekend! Shhh, I’m still working on my circle skirt from the first lesson!!
LOL! You got me cracking up, Mye! I won’t tell anybody if you promise to finish that circle skirt.
Omgee!! So cute and stylish!!! I love it!
Thanks Shawn!
